wouldn't it have been easier to just name the one bloke who'd miss out?

  3. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

    Ha, I guess.

It's strange we only have 1 NRL prop in the whole squad. Surely a bloke like McGuire would have got the nod.

  4. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

90% of props have no place in 9's IMO. To weak laterally

Assuming everyone is fit for rd 1 bar Stagg and Kahu, what do you think our team will look like come rd 1?

With the injury to Kahu, who was the frontrunner for the 6; I think we'll see Barba run there for the 1st few weeks at least, possibly with Nikorima on the bench. Though I am beginning to think we'd be better served with Strasser/Taylor/Cullen playing there so we can actually utilize Barba's strengths as a ball runner.

It should keep Hoffman happy for a month or so anyway...

    1. Hoffman
    2. Copley/Mills/Maranta
    3. Reed
    4. Glenn
    5. Vidot
    6. Barba
    7. Hunt
    8. Hannant
    9. McCullough
    10. McGuire
    11. Thaiday
    12. Gillett
    13. Parker

    14. Nikorima
    15. Kennedy
    16. Oates
    17. Green/Hala/Dodds/Lowrie/Ofahengaue

  6. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

    The side I'd pick:

    1. Barba
    2. Hoffman
    3. Reed
    4. Glenn
    5. Vidot
    6. Strasser
    7. Hunt
    8. Hannant
    9. McCullough
    10. McGuire
    11. Thaiday
    12. Lowrie
    13. Parker

    14. Nikorima
    15. Kennedy
    16. Oates
    17. Gillett

  7. Julian BJ Taylor

I find it so odd that you didn't sign someone who can play in the halves. Fuck even Holdsworth and Witt came back over to finish their career in the NRL and look likely to do so in reserve grade. Not world beaters by any stretch but probably handy to have someone to do a job for 2013 in case everyone else shits the bed.

  8. Julian BJ Taylor

The back 5 is much stronger than the one with Barba at five-eighth.

  9. Magic AJ Parker

Glenn's wasted in the centres IMO, would sooner play Copley or Oates there.

The one thing Hunt proved last season is he plays the short sides well, take away the only decent hole runner in the team and you're taking away arguably your greatest attacking go to play outside of throwing the ball to Barba or Hodges.

  10. Alec AD Funkotron

Copley must be in the side IMO.

  11. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

Copley instead of Glenn in the centres for sure.

    1. Barba
    2. Hoffman
    3. Reed
    4. Copley
    5. Vidot
    6. Nikorima / Strasser
    7. Hunt
    8. Hannant
    9. McCullough
    10. McGuire
    11. Thaiday
    12. Glenn
    13. Parker

    14. Granville
    15. Kennedy
    16. Oates / Lowrie
    17. Gillett

  12. Alec AD Funkotron

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'd go with to start the season. If Hoffman leaves, I guess Oates or Mills takes his place. Yow Yeh needs to spend some more time in QLD Cup.

  13. morgieb MC Burridge

How long is Hodges out for?

  14. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

I still think it's a pipe dream that he will ever be successful again in the NRL.

Mills went alright in the 9's....Oates still recovering from shoulder surgery or is he good to go?

  15. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

He'll be a week to week case by the sound of things. He'll probably be out for at least 2-3 months into the season IMO.

Good thing is he is recovering so much better than his last surgery. He is running already.

  16. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

    Yeah, that's a good shout.

    Something like:

    1. Barba
    2. Copley
    3. Hoffman
    4. Reed
    5. Vidot
    6. Strasser
    7. Hunt
    8. Hannant
    9. McCullough
    10. McGuire
    11. Thaiday
    12. Glenn
    13. Parker

    14. Nikorima
    15. Kennedy
    16. Oates
    17. Gillett

I'd Play Reed on the right, because that is where he has played his best footy; pairing him with Vidot.

As for the left flank, I'd encourage Hoffman and Copley to switch around a fair bit. They could take advantage of Hoffman's kick returns and Copley's size when challenging a high ball. Hoffman could go well at centre tbh. He is great when he is actually running lines. However, he get's lost when attempting to chime into phases from the back. At centre he could find some decent holes to attack, while not actually being a key distributor of the ball, because we all know he is fucking hopeless at it.

  17. Magic AJ Parker

For Brisbane to have any success this year their game needs to be built on defence & field position imo, they just don't have enough points in them to be outscoring other teams.

I'd probably switch Hoffman and Barba a lot in defence & I'd just pick the best defensive option in the centres which is probably Oates. Would definitely find a way to get Lowrie into that side too, even if it's just to relieve Parker for a short break and have a small stint in the front row.

Gillett needs a good slap over the head too. I do wonder sometimes if he and SKD were separated at birth.

  18. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

Yeah, it was hard to leave Lowrie out. Especially now that Stagg will be out for several weeks. Who gets dropped though? Looking at this side, it's Gillett. However, we all know that isn't going to happen. You're right about Gillett having defensive frailties, he always looks to be saving himself when attempting a tackle.

  19. Cribbage RG Cribb

I don't think Lowrie's needed, just good depth really. If you want to give Parker a rest without sacrificing the defence up the guts then you can always just have both hookers out there for a little while. I rip on McCollough constantly but he is good in defence, just can't pass off the fucking ground.

  20. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

Although I have no reference because I haven't seen much of his defensive ability at all; I just don't think I'd be comfortable with Nikorima in the middle without Parker being in and around the defensive line. He just has that look of someone from the Scott Prince school of tackling. I could be (hope I'm) wrong though.
