Nah Hayne has definitely been underrated on here for quite some time. People let their hate for him get in the way of what a gun he is. If he was a Broncos player this forum would be going off.

Right, so two errors then.... Seem to remember him making a try saver on Uate late in the first half too. Oddly enough that doesn't seem to have happened in your insightful version of the game however.

The ridiculous fan-driven agenda against Hayne is an absolute joke. I hate the Eels as much as the next guy (in fact probably more) and I think Hayne is quite possibly the biggest dickhead in the history of professional sport, but you have to respect high quality rugby league when you see it and quality thy name is Jarryd. The ultimate absurdity of this new trending Hayne hatred is in that none of criticisms are in any way analytical; they're just negative buzzwords that demonstrate how little football people actually watch before shooting off their mouths. Common criticisms of Hayne include "soft", "inconsistent", "uncommitted" and "drifts in and out of games", none of which actually demonstrate any rugby league analysis or are even remotely true or valid. These are just words that people throw around to talk down players they dislike for whatever reason - usually either club or state bias - and while there are players in the game who exhibit these negative qualities, they are rarely the players they are levelled at. These lazy buzzworders that call themselves fans know these claims can't really be proven or disproven; they are merely lazy, throwaway criticisms that deserve nothing but contempt.

I for one can't fathom how he was rated higher in 2009 than he is now, and to me that quite sums up just how out of touch the media and most of the fans are with the game. Hayne is so much better as a player now than he was then that it isn't even funny. Yes, Parramatta are performing a lot worse now than they were then but if you think that has anything to do with a supposed drop in Hayne's performances then you need to get your head out of your arse and start actually watching him play. The bloke has gone from being an admittedly very dangerous broken field runner but vastly over-hyped player in general to someone whose combination of vision, agility, power and ball skills before and through the line make him the toughest proposition in the game to defend - consistently too, regardless of what any of the buzzworders might want to say about that. His core ball skills are probably only level or even a little bit below a player like Thurston, but it's the ever-present threat of his powerful and elusive running game that makes the long and short passing games he's developed over the last two years so more dangerous than that of any other player. If you over-commit as a defensive line to him because you fear his dangerous running game then he'll burn you with the perfect pass and if you hold off him to cover his support then he'll run the ball, isolate a man one-on-one and use his strength, his speed, his power or his agility to beat him more times than not. His decision-making and general reading of the game has improved so much in the last year or so that he'll pick the right time to run and the right time to pass to clinical efficiency these days, and that too with woeful support options at Parramatta and at roughly 60% fitness so far this season. That the media - both mainstream and on sites like this - were far more impressed with his ability to run off the back of others' forward momentum and offloads in 2009 because Parramatta were winning speaks volumes about their inability to do anything other than read scorecards and watch highlights packages of tries.

Hayne is by far the best back in the NRL; only Paul Gallen and Cameron Smith rival what he brings to a football team. I say "in the NRL" and not "in the game" because he's yet to prove himself at rep level which brings Thurston and Inglis ahead of him overall, but this has more to do with lack of opportunity than lack of ability. I have little doubt he'll conquer that too when he gets the chance as long as he doesn't end up wasted on the wing.

Holy shit wall of text. Let me get a cup of hot chocolate before I read that...

You're very right about that, people just throw those terms around because they hear commentators and "experts" say those things and they just assume it is correct because they said it. They have no understanding and usually never/rarely watch the Eels play.

No I didn't. I said Sutton has the potential to be better than Campese, Carney and Lockyer but not Thurston because he's the unassailable, best 5/8th in the game. He never will be because the bloke doesn't know how to get up for a game week after week. But he's got sublime skills for a man of his size.

No. Three. Learn to count. Just because the officials missed it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Hahahahahaha. You call that a try saver? GMAFB.

It didn't happen period. Uate dropped it before Vatuvei even touched him. If he catches it, he scores.

The apologetics sink to a new low.

I hope you're not including me in this, EWS. Particularly the part about no analytical criticism. He's not fit to carry Thurston's boots, as a ball player afaic. This becomes evident when he actually moves to five-eighth and has to defend in the front line. He's still dangerous, sure, by virtue of his power running and agility. But it's quite rare to see him lay on a play-maker's try or to thread a backrower or centre through a gap.

Something tells me you wouldn't be so quick to yell and shout about it if it was the other way around though huh?

Nope, wrong highlight big fella. Try again.

I love how you can remember every error or slipup someone you don't rate makes (Gallen, Hodges etc) but that excellement memory of yours seems to disappear in situations like this.

Your nothing but a dishonest, lying dirtbag.

When Locke comes back from injury, should be

    1. Hoffman/Locke
    2. Hoffman/Locke
    5. Nightingale

IMO. But Kiwis love Manu..who can blame them, he's an entertaining player.

Even if I were to grant that, which I'm not, how the fuck is it relevant? He made an error and you won't admit it.

My mistake. That's the instance which came to mind (though it was in the second half as I've now realised). Which one are you talking about?

I misread/misinterpreted. Hardly makes me a liar. Whose the one who tried to explain away Vatuvei's phenomenally high error count as a result of getting more kicks? Talk about a liar. Who's the one who ignores an error from Vatuvei because of a referee misjudgement and then tries to justify said ignorance by citing a supposed hypocrisy on the part of your antagonist? How is it relevant whether or not I would give Vatuvei the same benefit if the situation was reversed?

    You're the dishonest one.

Why do you accuse people of being biased MF, when you're arguably the most grossly biased of them all?

Thurston, QLDer, untouchable. Gallen, NSWmen, sucks.

If Hayne was from Queensland, he'd be better than Thurston to you if Thurston was from NSW.

You accuse people of being wrong in taking pride in their nationality and ethnicity since it's something they can't control, yet you take pride and are easily the most biased person on the site for your state bar Ged.

Please tell me you're trolling with this horseshit. If you actually believe any of this you're a bigger moron than I had previously thought.

I've never been on the Hayne train and I don't even dislike his apparent dickhead personality. Marshall > Hayne.

Because your a biased prick which makes having any sort of debate with you insufferable.

Wow, an official made a mistake in a sporting event, I bet that's never happened before. Like I said if it was anyone but Manu you wouldn't say anything, but because he got a little bit of luck your've got your knickers in twist over it. It's much the same with anyone you have an agenda against.

I've said it before but your insane bias towards and against certain players as well as the way you post almost makes it hard to have any type of serious debate with you. I know I've already given up trying to do so and I bet many others have too.

I'm one of the QLDers who doesn't really hate Hayne. In fact, I even sort of respect him, after he saved a girl from drowning. But with Cribb stating that he's by far the best back in the NRL and Freddy stating that he'd be a better 5/8th than Thurston, I really can't help but feel that he's overrated.
