Has apparently fractured his C4 and C5. Essentially this means there is a high chance he will become a full or partial quadriplegic depending on how serious the damage is. Horrible.
http://www.newcastleknights.com.au/news/2014/03/24/injury_update_alex_mckinnon.html That is some good news, but even bruising can cause extensive paralysis.
Horrible. Tell you what, when I was watching it live before even seeing a replay and just looking at him on the ground I thought to myself this cunt looks paralysed. He wasn't moving a muscle but looked like he was trying to.
seems to me he thought he was going to be fully tipped over and tried to roll himself but the defenders didn't flip him as much as he thought and he went down on his own head? sort of his own fault a bit imo? <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/W-BmKXU12yE?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/W-BmKXU12yE?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Yeah I thought that too. He was laying flat on his back, screaming and ranting. The sort of animation in his face usually goes along with some sort of arm/leg waving but he was so still.
Hopefully the NRL look at this incident for what it actually is - an unfortunate accident that comes with the territory. It's part and parcel of the game. No matter how much you legislate against lifting (IMO it's already gone too far), every once and a while someone is probably going to end up in wheelchair. There's no measure that can prevent something like this if the ball carrier chooses to duck his head like that. I'm expecting harsher penalties for lifting tackles but I hope that's as far as the reactionaries are allowed to go.
