There's literally no one in that spine that averages more than one in play kick per game (to my very quick stat check), I don't know how these people are paid to write about a sport they seemingly know nothing about.

    Austin does but only barely.

  3. AVA T Delonge

Get Peatsy in there for game 3.

That team is rubbish but I hate cunts referencing the Queensland team as dads army. They may be old but they're some of the best player to grace the last 20-odd years and all time for some.

Well, that's my point. Age means fuck all if you can play. The idea of having an age restriction is ridiculous on its face but having an age restriction when your dominant opposition are the very personification of "elderly" in RL/sporting terms, is irony into the bargain.

It's not like this team wasn't built young. Thurston, Smith, Inglis all came in very young. That's what NSW need to do. Pick the best young talent they have, and give them the team to build.

They do need to be somewhat careful though. See if you go and pick a whole heap of new, young players like Leilua, Trbojevic, Tedesco, Austin (Peat's maybe) and they get beaten or, much worse, hammered; maybe a few of them drop their bundle or are totally out of their depth, then they all come in for criticism and scrutiny, and have to deal with the ramifications of being whitewashed despite not actually being responsible for it.

I don't think that's helpful in the development of future players.

  8. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

I think they just need to pick the best talent with a view towards the future. That's quite different from just picking players in a certain age bracket.

I don't agree with the chorus' of people wanting Moylan either dropped or put on the bench for Tedesco. For starters, I don't think he, Tedesco, is as good as everyone keeps saying. Secondly, I do think Moylan's shown enough to be persisted with. I would really like to see him in a spine with a halfback who has a fucking clue. And thirdly, I just think Moylan is the better player.

*And I do think a lot of the people putting him on the bench are just copping out because they know he doesn't actually deserve to be dropped. Yeah he can cover the backs/halves but where are you going to have him defending?

  10. Alec AD Funkotron

Good luck finding a halfback who has a clue in NSW.

  11. Cribbage RG Cribb

I actually think Moylan is even more important if the halves have no clue.

  12. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Absolutely. Moylan is a genuine playmaker and Tedesco is more of a link man. But Moylan probably hasn't played as well as he might've because of the current halves and thus it's feeding into the calls for him to be replaced.

  13. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Moylan should be in the #6

  14. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

I wouldn't protest that but I'd prefer Austin.

  15. Julian BJ Taylor

I'd like to see Austin used off the bench.

I'm a massive fan but his defence at five-eighth against well structured play is an absolute disgrace. His one on one contact is passable but his decision making in defence is horrid.

He's never been a Cricsim fav, but is there any reason Josh Reynolds isn't mentioned by anyone on here? I mean obviously, like Austin, Maloney, Bird and Moylan, he'd struggle without a good 7 which we just don't have. But he's a better player than Maloney and Adam Reynolds hands down IMO.

  16. Julian BJ Taylor

Yeah Moylan as the utility is fucking retarded for mine. That player has to be able to come on and turn the game. That's sort of why I want Blake Austin there. Because he'll just come on and play as a second fullback in attack and simply just support the forwards and run between their forwards. It is so mind boggling that we just haven't really ever tried to replicate what Craig Wing did in the late 00s.

His defence isn't as bad as Thurston's. At this point, with respect to their halves' defence, I don't think NSW can afford to give too much of a shit.

  18. Julian BJ Taylor

Having watched every Canberra game since Austin came over and most Cows games; Austin's defence is definitely worse. As I said one on one he's ok and probably better than Thurston. But his decision making in defence is absolutely chaotic.

Watch the first minute of this video and you'll see Austin make the wrong decision 3 times in 3 attacking movements led by Corey Norman.

Though with all of that being said, I do agree with you, NSW would be moving in the right direction picking him. This might sound stupid but there is SFA decision making from block plays etc in origin anyway. It's all one on one stuff out wide.

Yeah Austin's tackling is much better Thurston's but his overall defence isn't.

I don't care that much when it comes to picking halves though.

Thurston's tackling has improved quite a bit and he's still one of the worst defenders in the game imo. I'll take Austin's poor reads over JT's 12 missed tackles a game.He makes some awful decisions too.

lol this is just embarrassing. Like an under 8's game.
