He dropped everything that was kicked to him.

Yo guys, maybe a silly question here, but I haven't followed league for quite a few years now, just watch origin, grand finals and maybe an odd Aus game. I'm curious about offside rules with kicks. It seems to me when a player kicks down field a shit ton of players are offside and it never gets called. Given it does get analysed when there is points scored I assume the rule is the same, but just not really enforced strictly when it's not having much impact on the game? Example being last tackle and they punt down field from within their own half. Maybe its just an illusion I get watching live, but seems to me like tons of guys are offside.

I think it only gets penalised when a player in front of the kick goes inside the 10 before the player has already made a play at the ball. You can be in front on a kick but can't be within 10 of the one taking the ball before they get it.

There's also the 'downtown' rule where a player is penalised when they advance past the play the ball before the kick. This rule is hardly enforced these days though.

The Fox Sports ratings are absolute rubbish. The only rating I agreed with was Dylan Walker receiving a 0

What more can a winger do in a game like this? He can get in there and make a 3rd tackle run when he probably shouldn't and then be out of position if the ball comes his way (like Oates).

  7. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Oates was a tough one. He made a run that we really needed, but it cost us on the next play.

  8. Magic AJ Parker

Yeh Oates was caught out taking middle set carries to cover for his forwards who were struggling. I don't think you can blame him.

But that's what happens when you carry a slug like Thaiday.

I thought Ferguson was really good, ran well, looked safe and made a few tricky takes look easy.

Myles/Thaiday covered the work of one person. Wasn't good enough, especially when Thaiday played so many minutes.

I think you'd feel differently if you were a referee. It's human nature.

Yeah I agree with all of this. By the laws and current interpretations, the decision should've stood. I'm glad common sense won out though. And the decision was the correct one so whilst we may say it was poor officiating, it was good discretionary refereeing, if you know what I mean.

Myles just didn't play very long. I think his workrate was fine when he was out there.

Well for starters, he didn't get in early and help bring in the ball out of our end. And then when he finally did, it was thoroughly ineffective, barely making 5m a carry.

He put two bombs down, admittedly the latter in a very difficult try scoring situation.

However, it's his defence that had me critical. Positionally he was found out several times (Gagai saved him once with an intercept and again with a great ball-and-all tackle on Jennings). And I dislike his technique. First contact is high and with the chest. His effort on a charging Jennings may have been lauded by channel 9 for 'saving a try' but in reality if he moves up, as he should've, and goes low, Jennings never looks like scoring in the first place. Had NSW had halves with awareness, or a centre who doesn't play for himself they would've targeted O'Neill much more and eventually gone straight over or around him.

And when he attempted his first legs tackle, he got his head in a poor position and nearly knocked himself out cold.

He's just not very good imo which is why I didn't want him there originally. Last night confirmed that I think.

Yeah Myles was fine. The cunt only got 27 minutes.

The 5 prop thing doesn't work imo. You end up with shit like this - Gallen 56 minutes, Woods 36, Tamou 36, Klemmer 33, Fifita 24. And then add in Bird only getting 55 and Walker with 9. It's retarded. I mean I understand given the heavy track and physical slog that minutes would be down for the pigs but you'd surely rather it be Gallen/Woods/Tamou/Bird sharing the minutes which Fifita and Walker occupied.

They didn't need some big goofy cunt who likes to lumber across field (mind you, he actually played straighter than in the past). They needed leg speed and footwork ala Watmough/Lewis.

I'm a bit the same....didn't really expect too much from him in attack, but thought defensively he was pretty solid.

Swap O'Neill and Gagai in their club teams and no one would be picking O'Neill in any side, while Gagai would likely be one of the first picked.

Doesnt matter at all how a ref feels. If they start to think and act on who should get decisions they're fuvked

That's not really what they're doing. It's more split second decisions influenced by the sub or semi-conscious. They're not robots. There's never been a referee born who hasn't made decisions partly influenced by emotion. They all do it. That's why you see a dramatic decrease in penalties given to teams winning comfortably. That's why you see home teams marginally win more penalty counts. That's why you see tit-for-tat rulings. It's not as easy as you think to be completely pure and impartial. In fact it's incredibly difficult to disallow it from affecting major calls formulated in a matter of seconds.

There's a lot of things you notice on the replays that you don't during the course of the game. When Reynolds got stifled and passed to Moylan who put it in the in-goal and Boyd placed hands on it to concede the dropout, Reynolds was clearly in front of Moylan and he did chase. By the rules, even though he was still 5m away, that is a penalty.

I'm just a little bit fed up with the comments I've read from whining Blues supporters talking about the ref's instead of their own team's ineptitude. We got plenty of dud calls too. Blues fans saying they were downright robbed of victory are having a fucking laugh.
