This seems contradictory to me. I mean you seem to be implying that neutrality is desirable, but taking Game 2 elsewhere is an enormous advantage to the team which gets Game 1 at home because the series could well be over before the other side gets a game. I mean to invert what we're likely to see next year and the example I gave, you could have QLD hosting Game 1 and Melbourne hosting Game 2. That's a ridiculous advantage to QLD.

Yeah, I don't believe it is at all.

What about having Game 3 in Melbourne like in 2006?

  4. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Because you don't think Melbourne is favourable to QLD?

I mean I don't see how you can possibly argue that waiting until Game 3 to play at home is not a distinct disadvantage.

I agree with Paddy. If a game is to be taken it should be Game 3.

Nah, I just don't think the order of the games really matters in the slightest. If you're going to lose the away game and the neutral game then it doesn't really matter if it's Game I and II, or II and III, or I and III - you're still going to lose the series.

If Melbourne is advantageous to Queensland (and I think it is) then that's just bad luck for NSW IMO. It's not an intrinsic quality as much as it is just Queensland building up a bigger support base there in neutral territory -- good on them for that. It's certainly less advantageous to them than Brisbane is to them, or Sydney is to NSW, so it's preferable in general. I'd allow NSW to pick the neutral venue every second year, so if they wanted to build up a supporter base in Auckland, Perth or wherever (Canberra IMO, ultimate rort ) then that'd be great. Two home games just really annoys me for some reason.

The only thing I really don't like about my proposal is the fact that some fans in NSW/Qld wouldn't be able to go to a live Origin in their states at all some years. That would suck for fans who like attending these games -- and Origin still has a big crowd culture. I think it's worth the trade off though.

But that just completely ignores variable change, doesn't it?

Well I disagree. The Melbourne players being predominantly QLD spine/key/star players certainly plays a part and there are obviously other factors, but I think it's more to do with the Vic's dislike of NSW. Common enemy.

At these prices it is :p

Well yeah, exactly. NSW can suck on that, and I say that as a NSW fan.

It may not meet your definition of intrinsic but it's nothing really to the credit of QLD.

  10. Cribbage RG Cribb

Discredit of NSW may be more accurate, yeah.

Dude, it's a mutual dislike that goes back over a century. As a cricket fan surely you know this.

Yeah, I agree. I hate Victoria just as much as Queensland, if not more. I just don't think this is an intrinsic state of advantage though; it's something Queensland have a right to take advantage of. And moreover, it's certainly less of an advantage that playing in either Queensland or New South Wales.

Definition of intrinsic is natural, or essential. There's obviously no way anyone can argue it isn't natural or essential not to hate New South Wales or New South Welshman. :p

I find my self for the first time in a long time, not overly enthused to talk about Origin. You blokes have no idea what this feels like.

    Refreshing?

  16. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

Why.....surely you haven't dropped your bundle over us losing a series for the first time in 8 yrs?

  17. Lukic L Popovic

3rd game definitely makes more sense.

Assume both teams win at home, then the winner of the 3rd match is winning at a supposedly neutral venue.

  18. Benny BS Read

Yeah but fuck taking a potential decider out of QLD or NSW

  19. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

Fuck taking it out of QLD & NSW, fullstop.

It's between us.....fuck the other states and the rest of the world.

Agree with you for a change.
