    Thoughts on Josh Reynolds, everyone?

I didn't think he was as bad as a lot of people are making out. He was shoved on when NSW were being dominated and expected to turn the game around on debut. I thought his service from dummy half was decent enough. His defence was suspect though and unless he provided more of a spark from dummy half next time I wouldn't be keeping him.

Carney would have done a better job.

Was there even one fast play of the ball he could take advantage of? Doubt anybody else would've done any better.

I really didn't like Reynolds's passing. It was slow and quite a few were misdirected. They were ugly too; end over end, lacking precision.

Nothing wrong with end over end passing. I reckon it looks better than a spiral.

Nah, they're shit. They don't travel as quickly and it's harder for the receiver because sometimes you can't get it into a position to throw a good pass yourself. Throwing an end over end pass often means the receiver has to as well.

NSW looked much better when Farah came back on.

Lockyer was the king of them, his passing game was fine...

Wasn't anywhere near as good as masters of the spiral. Johns for example.

    He shat on them. Literally.

The pass just looks better. Gives me doodle a wiggle.

I'll take Thurston's cut-out to Boyd on Wednesday night over Lockyer's cut-out to Folau in 2010 Game 2.

  14. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

    You'd take anything from Thurston.

I thought the first try Thurston set up for Boyd where he dummied then threw it through two defenders was better than the 'cut out' which was made to look better than it was by a mind boggling defensive read from Merritt.

He had plenty of good chances to prove himself after half-time when we had all those sets on Queensland's line and was completely puss.

    Agreed

  18. Farhat AM Farhat

You could say the same thing about the first try.

That was made to look better by Merritt as well though. You watch that play and look only at Merritt, he made Thurston's mind up for him because passing to Inglis was not an option due to Merritt already being in between them.

I liked the cut-out better just because he threw it across the face of three Blues defenders, and hit Boyd pinpoint perfect. It was so Johns-like. Just grip and rip.

The first Boyd try was a better piece of creative football but it terms of pure skill the second try left it for dead IMO. It was a beautiful pass. There are lots of players with the sort of vision required to pull off what Thurston did for the first try, but there are only a very small handful of players going around who could've thrown that ball like he did for the other one. In fact I'd probably narrow it down to four, and even though three are from New South Wales, none of them were playing for us on the night.

It was the rugby league equivalent of a Mahela Jayawardene cover drive. Sure it was still only worth four but it was almost poetic.
