Can't believe I'm actually supporting United.

    Terrible goalkeeping that.

Crazy match. So stressful, and now I feel ill from all the shit food Moyes' ridiculously unnecessarily negative tactics made me comfort eat. You just don't try and defend for more than 30 mins against prank opposition at OT as United boss.

Still shouldn't be negative. Elated with the result

Hopefully this buys Moyes some job security.

I'd definitely be tempted to argue against you on this one. Plenty of very, very good managers would (see Mourinho) and it's what gets results. Maybe not defend for half an hour, but certainly not actively looking to score more.

Again, that's a very tough one to call. Not only does he have Rooney and Van Persie running (which, tbf, is a pretty standard tactic) he also has a few more shirts running in front of him, which would no doubt confuse him. It's not the best keeping, but it's not terrible - it's more well worked by United.

I'm sorry but it was flat out turrible goalkeeping.

Well worked by United ? It was the most basic fake I've ever seen.

Yeah he definitely fell for the fake. Pretty poor keeping really. Basic stuff.

The only thing you can really say in his defence is that Rooney has had priority all season over RvP in very similar poisitions, and the ball does only just get over the wall and dips almost immediately. So as he was already on the wrong foot his reactions were too late.
was pretty poor from him for the 2nd goal too. Nutmegged

Could do with them having a couple more games. Sometimes this sort of result can give a little boost to your league campaign but with a bit of luck they get Bayern and the confidence is battered again.

The distraction wasn't Rooney running over the ball - that's elementary stuff. The distraction was the United attackers' movements around the wall. In doing that, their markers also followed them, and all of a sudden the keeper has a lot of distractions going on and subconsciously isn't just looking at the ball. That's the trick there, it's not at all Rooney running over the ball. He has flashes of red and black going on in front of him and the ball is suddenly upon him. That's good work from the United attackers - the keeper wasn't great, but it certainly wasn't terrible keeping.

    Not if we batter Bayern!!!!!!!!!!

    Yeah, maybe not

But Rooney running over the ball wasn't the distraction. That wasn't what confused the keeper - that's not going to confuse any professional keeper. Quite honestly, if you think that is what has distracted him, you're not seeing the bigger picture.

he def thought the ball was going to his left. why else would his weight be all wrong

Well theoretically, that makes sense. With both Rooney and van Persie standing over the ball and the ball already being to his left, it makes more sense or him to be prepared to move that way rather than to his right. I'd say it'd be easier for both Rooney and RVP to go to his left than his right from that position. If he goes to his right, he's banking on it just being RVP taking the kick, whereas if he pre-empts it to go to his left, it could be either taking it. As I've said, it wasn't great keeping, but it certainly wasn't terrible.

This is actually hilarious, the United players barely even moved.

As a keeper who plays at an ok standard - it was awful

    Did you watch it again?

It's far more likely if RvP takes it its going to be aimed there than try and get crazy curl into the the other corner. I think he just fucked up. Yes the flight of the ball left him unable to see it until late but if he hadnt been on the wrong foot he'd have still saved it. His weight was wrong and that had nothing to do with the United players in the wall IMO.
