Brisbane Broncos thread on how to lose a GI and a Lock and a semi final

Norman wasn't a footballer, but he did set up a few tries at fullback (more than Wallace or Prince).

If Hoffman plays fullback, it has to strictly be as a support player. Problem is that he's being played strictly as a "second receiver" (whether that's his retardation or Griffindor's, I don't know), and it's like playing "hide the aids in the butthole".

He was considered a footballer as compared to Hoffman, according to some. What I'm saying is it shows rather clearly that Griffin has not been opting for the "homogeneous athletes" when it comes to the spine. Hoffman's more of an athlete than any spine player we've had for years until Barba came along. EWS seems to think this is just the latest evolution in a warped view maintained by Griffin about what you can do with a FG side. It's as far back as the end on 2012 that he tried to inject more ball playing prowess in to the spine, and of course we can't forget buying Prince last year.

Think it right or think it wrong, it's clear what it was. To say we need to try and play football this year carries an implication that I quite frankly do not understand at all.

Also says the manager removed the "cooling off" period from the contract, but I dunno if it's the same thing as the Round 13 thing.

    There is no smoke.

Norman is a prime example of the athlete approach EWS is referring too IMO. Player with decent ball skill and speed that they packed 12kg of muscle on too and called a half, despite not really fitting the mold.

LOL ......yeah and where there's tears you'll find a Raiders fan crying in his cornflakes over Milford.

    Keep clutching....:D

there isn't really smoke, As i said the article in the Australian did not have any quotes from Milford in it it was just a journo's opinion because the Broncos are currently heading for the spoon.

Griffin picking Corey Norman proves he's willing to pick natural footballers in the same way that me turning off my air con for one hour a day proves I'm conscientious about global warming.

Norman is more a natural footballer to Hoffman. Context.

Thank you ^. Perry the voice of reason :p

And ftr, neither I nor EWS ever used the word "natural." By footballer we mean exactly what fans of the sweet science mean when they say "he's a boxer." We're talking about being proficient in the variety of skills. You can be naturally talented without being a footballer. In fact this is most often the case IMO. Natural ability tends more towards the physical aspects - speed, acceleration, agility etc. There are naturally talented players as far as the horizon. Footballers are something different. Of course some of them are naturally talented - Johns, Lewis, Daley, Lockyer, but a lot of them have to acquire the skills through years of practice.

I wouldn't go as far as to designate Norman as "a footballer" but he's a lot more of one than Hoffman. That was the basis of the argument made by many people on here in favour of Norman over Hoffman.

disagree with a lot of that sentiment mf. when I think naturally talented (generally a term used for halves a ball players) I think blokes that are obviously terrifically co-ordinated and just fall into a sport. Owen craigie is the perfect example. he wasn't lightning quick, he wasn't strong or overly agile he as just a natural.

I reckon you're mixing the way we use athletic and naturally talented when discussing sportsmen Tbh.

In my experience the term naturally talented is used far more concerning players like Inglis and Barba and Slater than halves or ball players. Of course there are naturally talented footballers, like I said. Jason Smith, one of my favourite players of all time, would be an even better example than Cragie. But these blokes are far fewer in number than the naturally talented athletes IMO.

I pretty much go by a cunt being naturally talented if he's making his sport look easy.

mark waugh, cliff lyons etc etc

IMO the majority of athletic players that come through are naturally talented. And the majority of naturally talented players, are athletes. You're far more likely to see some young kid with natural speed and agility than a naturally talented ball player IMO.

Or perhaps I'm missing your distinction.

Yeh and I'm more conciousness about global warming than my next door neighbour who never turns off her air con.
