    Parker and Thaiday are coming to my job site in Gladstone on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. I wouldn't have thought that they'd send the two of them if there was any ill feeling over the captaincy.

    Was speaking to a mate today who always has reliable info on Souffs and he reckons Mcguire was very close to signing with Brisbane for next year, it's pretty much common knowledge now though that he told his players last week than he was staying on for another 3 years but you've gotta wonder whether that had any affect on Smith's rumoured decision to stay in Melbourne.

    Would've been quite a coup had they managed to get Mcguire & Smith.

    I honestly don't know where Brisbane go from here tbh, their development of players post Bennett has been woeful. Strong recruitment is a must if they want to be pushing for a premiership any time soon with Parker, Hodges & Hannant all eyeing off retirement in the near future & it's improbable they'll be able to recruit that successfully imo.

    Of the bottom sides from last year I can see where Wests, St Merge & Canberra are heading or at least their vision. I just can't see it with Brisbane & Parra and no one wants to be in the same boat as Parramatta.

    Smith & Mcguire was the hail mary play, what now? Curious to hear from the Broncos fans on here think because it just strikes me as a club with no direction atm. Last season they told us Thurston was too old to recruit & now this off season they wanted to make Smith the highest paid player in the game. Not to mention their two biggest purchases are both fullbacks.

    Yeah that's a fair appraisal. There seems to be a distinct lack of direction and a general indecision as to how best to replace senior players on the wrong side of 30. We had years to prepare for the departure of Lockyer and Civoniceva and though the latter has been somewhat remedied, the former, not just as a player but as a leader is still causing headaches. Signings like that of Scott Prince make me think they have nfi. On the other hand, there are some signs that Griffin/Henjak and their staff realise the club needs to be rebuilt - they tried to get Smith, Inglis and a few others but were unsuccessful. I doubt Bennett would've had the same difficulty. We did sign Milford which, whilst a good signing in isolation, makes me think again they really don't have a fucking clue when it comes to signing halves. They obviously think he either already is one or they can turn him into one.

    One thing is for sure, signings like that of Folau and Barba are not going to fix the recurrent problems and it may be a real watershed in a few years when Parker, Hodges and some others hang up their boots. I won't be surprised if the Broncos go from being a side you expect to see in the finals each year, to a side that you don't. And that will be a sad day, though some people seem to think it's already upon us. (I'm not one of them).

    I do expect them to make the 8 this year and I think the 2014 squad is an improvement on 2013. We're certainly not serious contenders though and won't be for quite some time. Not unless Kahu or Ben Hunt become the next Thurston.

    Yeah. It's muddled recruitment. The reality is though that if Brisbane can uncover a quality halfback from somewhere (easier said than done I know) they'd be a formidable outfit. Imagine their side but with DCE slotted in there. They'd be premiership favourites.

    I think there have been a fuckload of positive changes happening since August last year. All we really need is for a good halfback, and for McCullough to pull his finger out (or sign a quality hooker too). The Jnr development is still great, and everything outside of the halves and hooker is really strong.

    This jeer doesn't carry as much force as it otherwise might coming from someone who wanted Brisbane to go after Prince on a one year deal; a signing which as predicted by some of us, turned out to be a complete waste of time and money and one which has retarded both Hunt's development, and the reconstruction of our spine, post Lockyer.
