    Wouldn't say 100% but he's certainly knocking. If Cronk gets injured causing him to miss an Origin series, he'll find it hard to get his starting spot back IMO.

    Really? I think the Queensland selectors showed this year that if people are in good enough form, they'll drop the incumbent. If DCE continues improving and his form is consistent I think Cronk could be out of a job personally.

    True, but can you see them doing it to the spine? Dropping a few forwards is one thing, breaking up that spine is something else IMO

    Yeah true that. I think that a lot of it will also have to do with how the Melbourne Storm start their season. If Slater, Cronk and Smith are not playing well together at club level I think there could be trouble.

    I certainly wouldn't drop Cronk. I actually think in terms of balance we would be a better side with DCE starting and Cronk as the utility but nah, I would never break up the Slater/Cronk/Smith combination nor the Cronk/Thurston combination. It's not that I think JT would have a hard time combining with DCE but it would require some extra work which I just don't think is necessary. Cronk had a pretty solid series so I don't particularly care if he ended the club season badly.

    I think it sucks that it's a thing, but practically I can't disagree that much. It cheapens the concept of rep football IMO.

    Players getting picked just because they already have combinations with other players.

    And I don't mean players getting picked because they have styles that are more complementary to other players, that's fine. I mean straight up using logic like "Well Cherry-Evans is a marginally better player than Cronk, and he'd complement Thurston and Smith just as well as he does, plus Cronk would make a better utility, but there's not really that much in it and Cronk has an existing combination with the rest of the spine, so picking Cronk at halfback is a better idea." It makes sense, it's practical, and I'd probably do it too, but it sucks IMO. It shows up the fact that only having three Origin games a year actually cheapens the selection process a little bit because players don't really base their games around it.

    I don't believe he would compliment as well as Cronk does. I said it would take extra work between him and Thurston. Work that's already been achieved by slowly blooding Cronk the same way we presently are with DCE. That's part of the reason why I want to keep Cronk.

    You seem to think the styles of players and the degree to which they compliment each other is distinct from their combinations. I think they're inextricably related.

    Stop saying everything cheapens the game you daft cunt :p
