In terms of when they went, which were the worst picks of the draft? The ones to come to mind for me are: Swann in rd 1. Prior in rd 1. Noffke in rd 4. McGrath in rd 4? I'm obviously missing a shitload.
At least botha is current and can play as a genuine bat. Gemmell needed an out and out bowler though. He was going to pick Croft. No idea why he changed his mind.
I've explained, I just didn't give a shit and I had no net access so I took the first person that came to mind.
haha. Dizzy was a stinker for when he went. Vaughan was a shit one imo Ditto MacGill. There were far better, less risky options out there for boob at the time.
We didn't really have a bad pick. Perhaps Dilshan for what we actually picked him for in the first place..
Yeah. Noffke and McDonald went in about the 4 picks preceeding me grabbing Watson. McDonald in particular is just a shitter Watson, really. I'd take Watson over Symonds, too, who was taken in rd 2 or 3.
From my point of view, Sanath Jayasuriya was probably my weakest pick; given when I chose him. His first class record isn't that great, but he was precisely what I was looking for at the time to balance my initial picks and provide a solid opening option. Just chose him on reputation and his role, rather than giving it a full assessment.
We probably could of let Oram go for a few more rounds, but we needed the balance so it worked out well I guess.
Never seen Botha open the batting, hope I never do. He would have been better off picking Ian Blackwell IMO.
Noffke is an extremely under-rated pick, him being mentioned in this thread proves that. My worst pick was MacGill, he was silly. But not many white spinners that would have been better. Botha was taken purely for team balance.
