You reckon? I think components are going up what with the tsunami in japan. Cost of oil will raise plastic price etc. Nintendo have always been cheaper by being lower spec. If this is now the same spec they will need to at least match the price of the xbox and ps3 now. Plus the cost will be naturally higher because its new. Sony and microsoft will already have recouped their r&d costs. Wii and ds may have funded this research but they'll still want to make that money back or its a poor investment.
I think it looks awesome, but yes, definitely looks uncomfortable and looks pricey too. I bought a Wii and was disappointed, i'll admit it, but at the same time some of the exclusive games on it are good. Their Wii ware and virtual console is a cool thing. Had I not self hacked (homebrewed) my Wii I probably woulda got rid of it. If Wii could do all the shit it can when Homebrewed in the first place (eg download stuff onto it, play movies off USB drives, play DVDs, etc) then it would have been a much better console. Wii U not playing Blurays is a big shame.
It would probably match the current price of the xbox360 and ps3, but will definitely be lower than their prices when they came out is what I'm saying. But yea the component prices will probably go up with the tsunami but then again, there's a year before this is being released.
I don't reckon it's too uncomfortable. Supposedly lighter than an iPad and has the ridge on the back to help with holding it. I hacked my wii too
The best thing about the wii was the wii fit and the party games. But they got boring and didn't update them enough. But its price made it worth it. And the fact its small and unintrusive. Seems to me all the wiis advantages go with the u, but we'll wait and see.
Yeh I'd be very surprised if it was any higher than £250. They'll have been building them for a long time though. Not entirely sure on the effect of the tsunami on japans exports but I'd be surprised if there was none.
Wii fit and those party games will undoubtedly becoming to the wii<sup>u</sup> too. And the console itself isn't much bigger than the wii. The controller on the other hand... You should only need one of the big controllers though. For me, the main thing that will entice me to buy it is the type of new and unique games that come out that make use of the new controller. Might also see whether Sony or Microsoft have announced anything too, cos then I'd wait to see what they have to offer.
They'll have been building prototypes yes, but not the actual final product. That won't start being produced until a few months before they release the final thing and that is where the increased costs will start to have an effect. In NZ the wii came out at $500 I think, while the Xbox 360 was around $700 and the ps3 around $900 iirc. I'd say the wii<sup>u</sup> would be around $600

Nah I don't think it's compatible with GameCube discs. You could probably buy those games in a sort of virtual console thing though.
I got my PS3 the day it came out. Pre ordered it. I remember it being about $1100 but we got 2 controllers and 2 games with that so $900 sounds about right. Might have been a little cheaper.
I reckon the console won't make much money for Nintendo.. (which is good, cunts deserve nothing). They'll make all their money on huge profits from stupid people buying the same Mario game over and over again.
I don't care that they use the same series over and over again, I enjoy getting used to characters and shit, it's gun, need a little more of it on other platforms if anything. I just hate their stupid gimmick of the month approach to make consoles and handhelds in the last ~10 years. Touch Screen, Motion Control, 3D...... just make a decent fucking machine that I'll feel compelled to play for more than a week or two.
