Who's going to win the comp?

It seems to me that if ever a shit team was going to win a competition, it's this season.
    • St.George have clearly been the best but have been looking like busteds.
    • Easts have it in them and have the big match players but then they go and lose to Cronulla.
    • Penrith were easily the second best team in the comp but are now falling over without Coote there to catch bombs.
    • Gold Coast are suddenly right up there but I just can't see them winning it for some reason.
    • Brisbane's best is capable of winning it but they'll probably only just scrape into the 8 and will trip up somewhere.
    • Manly and Wests are both shit ****s who have major failings and whose best is not going to come close to winning it.
    • Parra, Souffs, Canberra, newcastle etc etc don't look likely to make a concerted run and all have struggled to put a couple of games together all season.
Which brings me to who I think could come from the clouds. I seriously reckon that the Warriors are a good shout. They finish the season with Manly, Brisbane and Parra, three games that I reckon they should win on a case to case basis but which I reckon they'll probably give up one of them.

Thus I reckon that St.George, Easts and the sheepies are the only three teams I can even consider winning the comp.

    Thoughts?

Your three, plus Penrith and Gold Coast can do it, IMO. Coote will be back and you still haven't provided a real reason for GC not being able to win it. I think people subconsciously exclude them because they're a new club and their players don't get picked for rep footy but they actually have arguably the best team on paper IMO.

Yeah. I was really just going through my own thought process. I really like their team but I just can't help but think that they don't have another gear. They haven't produced a performance which has made me think that they are a major shot at winning the thing. Hopefully Minichello is out for a few weeks and they can play Bird at lock and realise the potential they have with that combination.

Interesting to see Rob still think Penrith has it. It is the end of season Rob we won't win. Matt Elliot can only coach for 18 rounds.

The Panthers won't win. Rob, you have to face the fact that even though everything is good about Penrith on paper, simply enough they just can't win. Whether it's Elliott, or the fact they are a pretty lame defensive side, I don't think they can win.

The Tigers are pretty much no hope, will take some big flukage to win.

Manly are like an inferior version of the Tigers, so they've got no hope.

Gold Coast's defence isn't very good, however they are still every chance.

Brisbane's ****ed without Lockyer and he could be gone for the rest of the year.

    Saints will choke.

The Roosters are my tip and the Warriors are a darkhorse.

  6. Wilson SB Wilson

Lol, yeah. It's all Matt Elliots fault.

  7. Hughesy JM Hughes

Until Purtell is dropped it is Matt Elliot's fault.

  8. Jeffy JU Rocker

No one wins. One side just loses more slowly.

  9. Wilson SB Wilson

    Lol, muppet.

  10. Lukic L Popovic

    Purtell's not the reason.

Shit **** selections like Travis Burns who's as creative as my right toenail, as well as blokes like Dane Laurie plodding around on the field is what's costing you.

Also, the fact Purtell and Walsh defend next to each other is another thing which majorly ****s you over.

  11. Hughesy JM Hughes

I actually hope Elliot will drop Laurie this week. It isn't just Purtell but he would be a good start. I don't think it is the part side of Purtell that is doing the worst defence. It is the other side.

It is a big problem considering he offers such little in attack anyway.

  13. Lukic L Popovic

    lol @ Tomane.

  14. Hughesy JM Hughes

There will go. Nice to know I have something right for once. Should be dropped by now but isn't and probably won't be unless we sign Jarrod Croker :(

  15. Lukic L Popovic

Croker isn't even much better statistically haha.

Although statistics aren't really the best indicator especially outwide, considering some ****s are so far out of position that they can't "miss" the tackle.

Also, MF to stfu about Lawrence having shit defence. Biggest myth.

The funny thing is, Purtell does that all the time as well. He's probably the most regularly out of position centre defensively centre because he always goes for the intercept and he misses it 99% of time. He misses at least two tackles every game that don't get recorded as missed tackles, and yet he's still right down near the bottom. He's a joke as a defensive centre. Pick him on the wing, or don't pick him at all.

Ha, you can't rubbish the use of statistics to judge a position, and then proceed to use those same stats when it suits you to back up your own opinion.

  18. Lukic L Popovic

I didn't conclusively base my argument on that, nor did I say that statistics were complete rubbish, I said they aren't the best indicator. Obviously someone at 90% is better than a bloke at 70%, just not the be all end al.

  19. Lukic L Popovic

Haha yeah. Should be the Purtell stat. Ratio of intercept tries to tries let in because of it.

  20. Hughesy JM Hughes

You obviously missed the piss take. Croker is another Raider so he is the only player that can push Purtell to the wing or the Wolves.
