This moment was so sad that I laughed.

I reckon he's been the best bench prop this year in the NRL.

Really steps up v big packs too.

I certainly wouldn't have picked Ballin at the time but it worked out well. It was a shrewd pick by Meninga and co. Ballin played as solidly as you could hope for from someone replacing Smith. Good service, good defence. Didn't miss a beat. Never looked off the pace. Had he been a NSWmen I probably would've taken him over Ennis or Farah back when those two were fighting it out i.e. back when they were both shit for the Blues.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he's unlucky to not have played more because relative to the options available, he should never have played at all. On the other hand, based purely on his one effort, it's a little sad he didn't get to really prove himself.

I disagree. He was definitely NSW's best club level halfback for a few years IMO. Even this year it's probably still true. I don't think he would've played as much as he has without that name, but I think he would've got a crack at some point.

He might've even done okay if he didn't get picked absurdly early.

    Stanley brothers

  8. Julian BJ Taylor

Stuart dropped him for no good reasons and hasn't even given him one game this year. There's something pretty serious between the two IMO.

  9. Lukic L Popovic

    Chris Lawrence

Was such a gun when he first came onto the scene, then Sheens got a proper hold of him, bulked him up to the point where he lost speed and agility and then tried that bullshit backrower/5/8th shit which has fucked him now.

Unlucky to be born with a lack of heart/talent?

Made from glass - there has to be something there for em to get multiple fg chances

Des Morris, Daryl Brohman, Nic Kosef.

  13. BigGuns DA Astele

Ian Roberts was a tad unlucky to develop a liking for penis.

    Dessy...how so, because of Rod?

Des Morris played and was recognised to his full potential, imo. GF winner captain coach .....successful outright coach.....the current CEO of Easts. Played for his state......

    not sure what you mean?

I think a lot of Queenslanders pre-Origin would also fall under this umbrella. Those that didn't emigrate to Sydney probably wouldn't be as well-known as the NSWRL players, and it's kinda hard to gauge how good they were.

Des was selected to play for Australia but the team doctor diagnosed him with a heart murmur and passed him unfit. Played on for years without a problem but never selected for Australia again- I'd class that as unlucky.

I don't think Chris Lawrence is even remotely unlucky as a player.

He got shifted around a bit in his first year or two, which happens to huge numbers of juniors when they arrive in the NRL. Since that first little while, Lawrence has played almost exclusively in the centres for his entire career. There are no shortage of things, including player's careers, which Sheens has fucked up; however, if you get 7-8 uninterrupted years in one position and you can't reach your potential, then the blame largely falls on you. Lawrence was just an above average centre with a limited ceiling.

To be honest, he is incredibly lucky considering most players of his ability would never get to play 6 Tests for Australia and win a major tournament.

  18. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

    Indeed ......didn't know that. Cheers.

Agreed ....was simply talked up and over rated in the media like so many other NSW players.
