That's about as retarded as not picking them in the 8 if not more so. They can't win the comp. Their defence is pus and their point-scoring goes MIA too often.
They just need to develop consistency with their defence. They got points in them but the problem for me is more their inconsistent defence from game to game. They may turn puss in defence against the Tigers next week. Have to agree with Alec about them being hot and cold, its hard to expect much from the Cowboys when they can't put on consistent performances.
Yes it is, and no they can't. Teams who not only cannot beat but actually get smashed by the Titans twice in one season do not win competitions. The real reason the Cowboys cannot win the comp is, aside from their technical deficiencies and totally erratic, hot and cold form, they can't win in Sydney, which is where they will have to come finals time. They haven't won a game in Sydney this year (0 from 2) and their record last year was 1 from 8. You show me a club that has ever won a premiership with that sort of record in Sydney. If the finals were played in Brisbane, then yeah I'd say they could win the comp. Alas they are played in the supposed home of RL down south, and it's been a problem ever since their 2005 GF appearance. Since then they have played two finals matches in Sydney, incidentally both against Manly. And on both occasions they've been smashed by 20+. Of course they're a better side than last year but they certainly haven't come far enough and developed into a team that plays a well-rounded game or even knows the meaning of the word "consistency". You've got buckleys of winning a comp without one or both of those.
I wouldn't be passing too much judgement given you said Manly would win the comp and they just got raped by Newcastle.

They're a quality side but they have some real shitty performances in them, especially without Brett Stewart. They've lost to the Titans, Panthers and Eels this year. I can't ever recall a team that lost to the bottom three ranked sides, winning a comp. And it's an enormous task getting in back to back finals. They're missing Hasler big time IMO. Should be very, very interesting to see how they bounce back against the Dogs at Brookvale.

I could be way off here but can't you be penalised if you intentionally miss the conversion? I remember Covell doing a similar thing against the Warriors several years back.
Was watching Newtown play in the NSW Cup earlier this year and they got a penalty right in front and the guy fucked it. Kick landed at the corner post and the ref penalised them. Was probably the worst kick i've seen.
