This shield is pretty irrelevant considering the best team in the comp by far and unbeaten doesn't hold it and wont have a chance to for 5 more rounds. Should be more like the unofficial football world championships (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unofficial_Football_World_Championships). But then complaints of the shield being passed around too quickly form. Although if Heef hasn't already done so I'd be happy to make a spreadsheet and record stats for all the title defences/times held by a club/duration of time held etc etc. Too satisfy my inner maniac statistician of course. Maybe I'll just do it anyway.
Go for it. I was just editing the opening post to put in any Shield matches played. I guess your complaint about not enough Shield games is what makes the Ranfurly Shield in NZ rugby such an important title to win. You may not even get a chance to play for the Shield for 2 or 3 years; or more if you're really unlucky. So when you get the chance, you have to throw caution to the wind to try and win it.
Yeah I can certainly see how it has its advantages, suppose it's just a different type of competition and you can only win it if you're in it. Stickies and Pooma trolls to GAGF.
It's the only time we have taken it seriously, and that's because there were essentially two titles on the line. EDIT: And I also meant that we took it the most seriously out of all the clubs, not that we considered it more seriously than the BS.
