Yep. You would need 2 consecutive seasons averaging 50+ in rep cricket to even get into consideration IMO.
You need to cancel out how dire you have been so far, so I don't think it would be far from that, would be at least 2 at 45.
If he went and averaged 50+ in PC S11, I would still not consider him for a Test squad if it was at the end of S11. He has been utter shit in PC so far, one season doing well at a higher standard doesn't prove he is good enough. I would still put him as the 3rd top order batsman for Britain.
LOL....you certainly seem to be popping up in various threads in there Goat. You know you wanna join us, now you have seen the best subbie on the site.
That's just because that's the sort of selector you [and unfortunately, Rob] are. I think if I were to be in the top 5 BS run-scorers again, and averaged 50+ in the PC I'd be in serious contention for a lot of people.
And I'd question why when there's a number of batsman who have performed similarly at BS but vastly outperformed you at PC for much longer.
The Test side isn't meant to be the best XI from that season though. It is about the Best XI overall. That is how it would tend to work in real life too. Someone who averages 40 for 2/3 seasons in a row is going to be picked ahead of someone who averages 20 then 50.
If I come in the Top 5 again I'll have come in that bracket for three consecutive seasons, that's pretty consistent. All I need to do is stop choking at PC and I'll be all set IMO.
