I'm genuinely tempted to create two lachie hansen's in the database, one who plays defence and one who plays attack. Because Hansen's skills that he utilises to be an incredibly effective defensive player should translate to being a gun forward (as they are in this) but in real life they just don't.
Just got smashed in the middle really. It's gonna be hard for Diggs to win games when Watson's his only A-grader unfortunately.
CPL MVP: 5 - Lachie Hansen: 29 touches, 16 marks of which 4 were contested, 4.6 and 6 tackles. Offensively good 4 - Nick Riewoldt: Nearly as good, 23 touches, 9 marks and 5 goals as well at 7 inside 50s 3 - Sam Jacobs: Smashed the ruck. 2 - Richard Douglas: Was awesome around the flanks linking forward and midfield so well 1 - Joel Selwood: Was just good and effective all day.
He's been like this all comp really. I made a few changes to all key position players as forwards were dominating too much (i.e. 25 touches 10 shots but sometimes 8/9 of them were from open play) and really there aren't too many key forwards who do most of their work at ground level so I decreased the crumbs rating of every key forward pretty much from mostly in the 30s to into the 20s/100. Hurts the hybrid kpf/midfielders i.e pavlich/watts a bit but oh well. Also increased the key backs proficiency at ground level defensive acts from mostly in the 60s to into the 70s. FFFX was made 10 years ago when key forwards regularly scored 80-100 goals a season so I've got to really make a lot of changes to try and get rid of that. There's been a massive decline to what I believe are acceptable standards for key forwards this round thanks to the changes but one will get away every so often. Hansen played his best footy down back where he found space uncontested but also took heaps and heaps of contested marks and intercept marks. He is an exceptional contested grab but that applies more towards defensive movements than attacking movements where the mindset and approach is a little different and it clearly throws Hansen. I just can't code that in unfortunately without severely weakening his defensive ability. 9 of his 10 shots were taken from marks within 25 metres of goal. The other was a mark 40 out straight in front and one behind was from open play. It's important to fix yeah but things like this are going to happen. Sometimes IRL a ridiculous performance comes out of nowhere and this will emulate that too.
Your defence is a real weakness. Chaplin/Grundy is an okay key defensive setup and Pears is a reasonable third tall but he's an offence first defender so if he's taking the second tall which he is atm he's a liability. Suckling is a rebounder with not a huge defensive game and Hunt offers nothing but physicality and good close/inside defence. Cooney's not a natural either. I know against morgie you both had similar levels of inside 50s but you had 10 rebounds less. Today Diggler went inside 33 times and you only sent it out 15 times which is abysmal to be rebounding at less than 50% You lost round 1 because Morgie's midfield is better than yours. You won today because your midfield absolutely destroyed Digglers.
Conceded 404 pts in 3 games. 134.66 ppg. Granted your midfield gifting the ball to the oppo doesn't help as they're smashing you in inside 50s perhaps the defence needs a rework?
