At least they can win. Shouldnt complain a great deal about that tbh. The feeling of enjoying a win comes rare for me lol
Haha, Fitzhenry wasn't that bad at all. Impressed me. I still think Ryan is a better option at fullback tbh.
Yeah Fitzheny's best position has always been fullback. Still definitely think Ryan should be there though; have no idea why they were swapped. Ryan at fullback has been a revelation this year. A few other things... I've said it before and I'll say it again - Newcastle are rubbish. I just don't know how they win games. When your best two players are wingers you have massive problems. None of the forwards offer anything in attack at all. The Tigers certainly aren't a hard team to get yardage up the middle against and the only player that ever looked like doing that consistently was the winger, Uate. I know they had playmakers out but that wasn't the problem. I don't care who Sheens names at halfback, but he needs to let whoever he names play there. I don't think Lui or Lazarus are much worse than Moltzen (in fact I actually think Lazarus would be better than Moltzen if he was given the proper role) but they need to actually be given the licence to get into first receiver and organise the middle of the field. I'm not really interested in seeing Marshall get the ball unless Wests have momentum in the set, something is on out wide or they're inside the opposition thirty. The Tigers back row won them the game though. Almost 300m between Ellis and Heighington, and Moors finally had a decent performance.
Well, he is a five-eighth. Playing Marshall at halfback is not a good idea under any circumstances though. Not only does it completely waste an excellent attacking five-eighth, but he's shit in closer anyway.
Newcastle got dominated in the forwards. Newcastle's running forwards Runs: 59 Mtrs: 383 MPR: 6.49 Wests's running forwards Runs: 98 Mtrs: 736 MPR: 7.51 To have this happen against at Tigers team missing Galloway and Fulton is quite embarrassing. It happens all too regularly for Newcastle too - their forwards are soft. Players like Paterson are massively over-rated.. whenever he makes more than 80m people rave on about how well he played. 80m is shithouse - he's only cracked 100 once all season and he managed to miss 5 tackles that game anyway.
Gee look at the difference of runs there. 30ish runs behind the Tigers. The only Newcastle forward I rate is Ben Cross. I like the guy, seems to put his head down and try hard. Tolar is also someone I rate from their pack. The other options are reasonably useless though. Taia wasn't very good last night. At the start of the game I was happy for Rogers, was playing some good football but made a few amateur mistakes (despite playing first grade long enough to not make these mistakes). I will be interested to see what the next Newcastle team will be especially in the halves with Gidley coming back. I personally would go for: 6. Gidley 7. Dureau Even though I thought Gidley was gun at halfback two weeks ago I thought Dureau played a decent game. I also believe that Naiquama played good enough to be retained at the back until McDonnell gets back so it gives Gidley even more of a chance of playing in the halves. I thought the Knights had more positive signs in them than the Tigers. I would rather not applaud the Tigers victory because it was ordinary. It was probably worse than ordinary. The scoreline in the end flattered the Tigers, this game should of been high scoring affair. It probably would of too if it wasn't pissing down rain. Tigers won this one purely on the fact that they have two English men in their team (firmly tongue in cheek). Seriously though, there was some improvement in this side regardless of some of the errors. I tend to agree with Rob that whoever Sheens picks at half needs to be given the chance to play the position. Lui may be a 5/8 currently but I am pretty sure if Sheens is persistent from now on through the new off-season he can turn him into a reasonable halfback. Junior Moors did play well this week and I think Tigers fans will start to see the potential he has. Wasn't given sufficient chances at Penrith and I think he could turn into a well rounded footballer. Benji Marshall is shocking and is over rated as. He is not consistant enough to be considered a superstar, he is dire. There is little wonder Tim Sheens has hardly any hair. Sheens would be sitting in his box and every time Marshall makes a silly judgement pulls out his hair. The silly mistakes in the end weigh out some of Marshall's best. One example of this and I actually said it when I was updating this game last night, he kicked the ball on the second trying to get a miracle play when all he needed to do was to continue out the set. The Tigers were so close to the line they would of been near certain to score if it wasn't for that ridiculous judgement. I can't believe I have watched two weeks of this crap dished up from the Tigers. They may have won this week but I am not convinced they are a finals side even when they get most of their injured players back. They had a chance to win me over but I am certainly not convinced. The Sharks could have beaten the Tigers last night and I would say pretty much every other NRL team would of beaten them tonight regardless of where they are on the ladder. The Knights just played terrible as well making some crucial and silly errors, some of the drop balls could of been caught by a 12 year old kid.
I thought Robert Lui was decent. Struggled a bit with some of the bigger Newcastle forwards running at him, but he will get better as time goes on.... Deffo was playing 6 though, Marshall was first receiver the entire first half, and was a shitload less effective. Once he gets to second receiver, the Maori Magic starts. Fitzhenry was lulz on attack, but FMD he was a tank on defense. Defused situations easily and was cool as. Beau Ryan! FMD, white line fever. Dropped it cold early on Rob/Lukic, thoughts on Dwyer? He was massively impressive for me
We need props, but instead we are going after O'Donnell (at least its better than the others), Gasnier and Henry. Sigh.
The pass from Daniella to Ryan was a bit shit tbf, Daniella could've scored himself. And Dwyer is a gun, should be starting in place of Flanagan who should be playing the utility role that Brown is in.
