    The only way I can judge players I haven't seen play regularly is to go by contemporary accounts, and given how much I disagree with 'experts' now about players, I think it's fair to say I probably would've disagreed a lot back then too.

    I haven't seen very much of Gasnier, Coote and Fulton but I'd be surprised if two immortals and one-near immortal weren't roughly as good as everyone says. Maybe Raper was better than Gasnier. Maybe McCarthy was better than Coote. I doubt it though.

    Secondly, I made the thread so I think I know the criteria I had in mind better than you. If I meant based on entire careers I would've had Lewis ahead of Lockyer at the Broncos.
