Wtf is a soft state drive and why would I want to pay equal or more for a 228mb ssd instead of a 1tb hard drive?
A solid state drive has no moving parts and is much quicker than a traditional hard drive. This means that applications will load quicker and your computer will boot faster.
I think they have similar chances of breaking but I'm not too sure. If you have an external hard drive that you can use to store your movies or tv shows then the smaller size doesn't matter too much, and it would be worth getting the ssd for the speed. Otherwise, if you want everything on the laptop so its easier to transport, or you don't have an external hard drive then you should probably get the normal hard drive
Pretty sure repeated copying and pasting to an SSD wears it out a lot quicker than a normal hard drive. Laptop with an SSD but storing things like music/movies etc on an external hard drive is the way to go.
Yeah, you pretty much only get a SSD drive to install Windows 98 (or whatever they are up to now) on so it boots up faster.
Really you're not going to see any difference in life span between SSDs and traditional HDDs unless you're using it in an enterprise setting. Standard consumer use won't affect the lifespan of a SSD significantly enough and it should last for a pretty long time
SSDs haven't been widely used long enough for accurate lifespan measurements, but controlled testing suggest longer lifespans than standard HDDs.
interesting. had been wondering what ssd stood for too. i will probs get a lappy at some stage if i can be bothered to save.
