So I just noticed how the Warriors can still lose by less than 3 points and make the top 8 and it got me thinking, if you were the captain or coach of the Panthers, you're up by 1 or 2 and you get a penalty 20 metres out right in front on the full time buzzer would you take the two knowing you knock the Warriors out or don't and send another team out?
I'd just not tell my players about that. I don't think teams should be playing god with other teams' futures like that really. Penrith should do everything in their power to win their game; everything they do should be to increase the likelihood of them winning. Which team finishes 8th shouldn't matter to them.
Which is what will happen IMO. I can't imagine them going out there and not trying to win by as many as possible even if the game is won. I'd have a huge problem with any team that deliberately missed a goal. And I say that as someone who wants the Broncos in the finals. I'd say the same if the roles were reversed.
Better question. What do the Warriors do if the game goes into extra time and Penrith have the ball 10m out. I'd give away a penalty.
Yeah. If Parra win, the Warriors must win. If either win, Brisbane are out. And if the Warriors win, they're in no matter Parra do (short of winning 180 odd to nil.)
Also, the Warriors could be down by 4 points and take a penalty goal rather than going for a try and lose the game but make the 8. That would be so strange. Although I can see Soward being a cunt and kicking a field goal after that.
Actually it would depend on the precise scenario. If it's a kick from the sideline and they're worried about putting it dead or hitting the post and it bouncing back in field then no. But if they're right in front, yeah I would.
Yeh I reckon it'll sell out. There's heaps of Polynesians in the Penrith area who'll get out to see the Warriors & it's Penrith's opportunity to make the top 4. It's the game of the round in terms of ramifications for the top 8. A promoters dream.
The last time Penrith played the Warriors at home they got under 6000 people. I know the circumstances are quite different but they don't even get 20,000 when they play Parra or Wests. Maybe it'll turn out that way but I'm not sure a game even with finals places on the line will draw 22,000.
