Mainly a question for Rob, but I'd love other opinions too. I don't know if this has been answered previously, but I was thinking about it earlier today and didn't know the answer. Does handedness have any effect in CricSim? On the site it'll only list a bowler as 'leg-spin' or 'off-spin', but a right arm offspinner will bowl much differently than a left arm orthodox bowler. Also different modes of dismissal depending on the handedness of the batsman come into effect. So does being left handed or right handed have any effect in CricSim and if so how much?
Yeah, I'm not sure. Fairly sure Rob said Wilson is a SLA bowler, yet he's the best bowler in the sim and has the ability to tear through line-ups, which is uncommon.
Well not really - it depends what hand the batsman is batting with. An right arm offie bowling to a left handed bat is really exactly the same thing as a left arm orthodox spinner bowling to a right handed bat. The answer to your question is no though - not because I don't want it to have an effect but because the best simulator in the business doesn't have an input for it.
At Test level yeah, but not at First Class level. Particularly in spin-friendly conditions. It's also conceivable that he's just a left-handed version of Murali - an absolute freak. The world hasn't seen one yet but it's entirely possible theoretically.
Yeah, I meant left hander will will bowl differently to a right hander at the same batsman. Ah, okay. Thought as much. Thanks for that. What about modes of dismissal? Spinners and stumpings, quicks and caught behind decisions?
Well as the simulator doesn't take into account which hand the batsman is batting with, which hand the bowler is bowling with becomes completely irrelevant by default. There's an input for bowling style; just not bowling handedness. So yeah, that all happens.
