In my eyes both these sides are good guys, Warriors are the under dog, whereas I like Manly because of young guys they've found stuck with like DCE, Foran, Hopoate then guys I've found a new respect for like G Stewart, Tony Williams and all round mad cunt journeymen like Joe Galauvao. Surprisingly I think I'll be going for Manly, Joe deserves another premiership.
Yeah if it were at least Storm vs Manly I'd be fair stoked. Instead I've got a shit NZ mate who supports Manly having wet dreams over this shit. The cunt's a Manly Supporter but wants the Warriors to win because they've never won before.
Joe's the man, man. Last years was balls too as it was two 'bad guys' in my eyes. It's a shame that it couldn't have been Warriors smashing the Roosters last year and Manly belting St George this year.
Manly have plenty of other good guys. Ballin, Hoppa, Robertson, Buhrer & Rodney. They're all non controversial.
Not big on Ballin for some strange reason. Joe Galauvao is where it's at, the blokes an absolute weapon.
It goes back to the 70's when Manly bought a number of South Sydney & Western Suburbs players. They had the money back then and other clubs got pissed off. Another reason is obviously jealousy because the club has been quite successful over the last few decades. There is a perception of arrogance which TBH I see them no worse than other clubs. We do have our fair share of idiot supporters but then again so does every other team.
That has little to do with it's modern manifestation, in the current zeitgeist, in my experience. For one thing most of us have no recollection of it. Look at this article and ask yourself how much of this a 12-30 year-old would actually remember or have knowledge of and thus use as fuel for the fire against your club. http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/...-so-many-enemies/story-fn2mcuj6-1226143318680 I mean does anybody here, even the older members, honestly hate Manly because they signed Wests and Souths and Pommie players in the 70's and 80's? Or because they got 7 tackles in the 1978 GF? Or because Paul Vautin and Bob Fulton didn't see eye to eye? Please. Cheer yourself up with that if you like but it doesn't seem to me to be true. Brisbane have won 6 premierships in the last 20 years, as opposed to Manly who've won 2, and yet Brisbane hardly illicit the same sort of ubiquitous hatred and dislike. Nor do Canterbury or Newcastle who've also won 2 premierships over the same time period. Not to mention Melbourne before they were stripped of their titles. I think it has a lot to do with your supporters. I think it's the perceived, unanimous dislike which turns people against you. In other words, the fact that you think everyone hates you, makes people hate you. Quite often you'll see signs saying "we know you hate us and we don't care." Shit like that isn't going to win you any converts. Brisbane have had far more success, far more money, sign/have higher profile players, and were ridiculed by old BRL stalwarts for ruining their competition in 1988. And yet are they hated in an even remotely similar sense these days? I don't think so.
