I think it will be Melbourne 13+ I haven't rated the Dogs all year. Will make me sick if they win the comp.
While I like your points MF I still get uneasy about the Storm's big 3 and the experience that they all have in big games. For a sizeable chunk of our team this is by far the biggest games they've played and I hope they don't get intimidated by the occasion.
I don't really believe in the intimidated by the occasion thing, A GF is what you strive for, everyone would be fucking pumped and ready to roll come game day.
Halfway through the year, I was Melbourne's biggest admirer. I said they were so far out in front of everyone else, and practically predicted them making the GF. Now that they have though, I'm off their wagon. Post Origin they've been rubbish, even in games they've won. Their pack is better than last year but still average, and their outside backs are average too. The big three have to play well for them to be a strong chance, because everything else is against them. Personally, I think this is one of the best GF match-ups in years. I think it's going to be extremely close and could go either way by nothing more than a field goal. Either that or the Dogs will win well. These objections about Canterbury not being able to win a comp with shit halves like Reynolds and Keating have been well and truly exploded IMO. Any team that loses one game in 5 months is capable of winning the GF.
I wonder if any sides will look to expand even further on the Canterbury game plan and look to have strong defenders as halves rather than creators who miss 7 tackles a game.
Probably couldn't disagree with you any more. Wanting to win something has nothing to do with pissing your pants when the time to win said something arrives. Allan Langer used to vomit before Origin matches. Watch Ben Barba's first three touches in the game against Manly if you want to see what effect a relatively big occasion can have - And that wasn't even a GF. Look at David Williams to see what Origin pressure can do to a player. Some players handle it. Some don't. But they all feel it, I assure you.
I get that everyone gets nerves, particularly in the opening 5, but you should ease into the game and be fucking pumped, wanting the footy kicked to you if your the fullback so you can make your mark. Although I guess your opportunities are more limited on a stage like a Grand Final so something like an uncharacteristic knock on in that opening 5 can ultimately decide a game. I concede that I might've been a bit rash with my original post.
I think the Storm will get up, but I really hope the dogs stick it to them and I've been under rating them all year.
I haven't rated them either, honestly shocked they made the top 8. I do recall tipping Dragons, Knights and Dogs to all miss the 8. They just look like such a nothing team and it frustrates me how well they are doing.
