City and Country teams 2011

I thought I'd start a thread on this. Lets assume for a minute that Morris, Gallen, Bird and Gidley make the Test team but no other New South Welshmen do. Also assume that Lewis, Weyman and Josh Morris wont be fit for the game (as I don't believe they will be). What do you think the teams should be?

    I'll have a stab:

    City
    1. Hayne
    2. Merritt
    3. Gasnier
    4. Jennings
    5. Gardner
    6. Sutton
    7. Pearce
    8. Mannah
    9. Farah
    10. Galloway
    11. Watmough
    12. Waterhouse
    13. Anasta

    14. Grant
    15. King
    16. Mateo
    17. Buhrer

    Country
    1. Dugan
    2. Uate
    3. Idris
    4. Thompson
    5. Gordon
    6. Carney
    7. Mullen
    8. Snowden
    9. Ennis
    10. Tolman
    11. Creagh
    12. Laffranchi
    13. Hindmarsh

    14. Douglas
    15. Learoyd
    16. Tupou
    17. Soward

I've left Lyon out of Country's team because I think Idris and Thompson are both potential NSW players in the next couple of years and they'd get a lot more out of the run. He will probably be there though and fair enough if he is.

I've picked a few players in really bad form (Sutton and Jennings top the list there) but I think it makes more sense to pick potential Origin players in questionable form for a game like this than to pick guys who are realistically not good enough to ever play Origin like Keating.

Country's team looks so much stronger IMO.

  2. Old Mate M Perry

    Peter Wallace.

  3. Cribbage RG Cribb

He or Graham could play ahead of Sutton I guess.

  4. Old Mate M Perry

    Yeah definitely ahead of Sutton.

  5. BigGuns DA Astele

Probs have Blake Ferguson in one of the wing spots.

  6. Cribbage RG Cribb

Nah. He's definitely not better than Gordon or Uate.

  7. AVA T Delonge

    Maybe City, but not Country.

    Anyway, Country FTW!

  8. BigGuns DA Astele

Definitly better option than your selection of Gardner

Hindmarsh at lock is interesting, I reckon he'd be pretty gun there though.

Hindmarsh plays lock for Parramatta tbh; he just wears 11. Horo plays as a second rower.

  11. Cribbage RG Cribb

    Ferguson's from Dubbo though. :p

  12. AVA T Delonge

Yeah, but actually picking him at lock is a step no one else has taken yet. :p

  13. Lukic L Popovic

Surely a better winger than Gardner available.

Stewart brothers are from the Gong so they're Country. I really wanted to fit Brett Stewart in (he's actually in my extended NSW squad) but I really couldn't. Both he and Dugan are experiencing a lot of injuries this season so it'll probably just be a matter of whoever is fittest.

Yeah, I thought they were city. Keep thinking the biggish regional nsw areas are city, wollongong, newc etc.

Other options are Reddy and Minichiello. I suppose you could bring Champion in and put Jennings on the wing like they did last year, but I think Gardner would be a gun winger.

We should be able to pick Nightingale but he decided to be a Kiwi.

Country's team pretty much rapes City's in every single aspect of the team. Such a stronger forward pack and backline (overall, Hayne is still > Dugan :p) and halves are pretty even (on form seeing as Carney is playing like a retard atm), but have the potential to be better as well.

  18. Wilson SB Wilson

Better off putting Gardner at fullback and Hayne on the wing. Gardner has been immense.

  19. Wilson SB Wilson

And he'd be a poop winger, his best attributes would be nullified somewhat.

Pearce and Sutton have played like retards too though, especially Sutton. Country definitely have the better halves by far IMO.
