    And yet they were arguably one of the best teams at spreading the ball quickly and probably scored the most long range tries in the NRL. I admire a team/coach that can work around their deficiencies, even if I also hated their team make-up.

    It's not just that his overall coaching ability that's prob a 7/10 max currently but he has prior experience coaching the team, he sticks with his boys to let Bennett steer the ship and then can now come back knowing he will have the respect of the playing group.

    Griffin is a better coach out of the free agents probably but stone fits the knights

    Stone also gets a bit of extra love because he got his first go cut short by Bennett's arrival. You have to feel for a guy who was doing a good job and then lost his position by the sheer misfortune of having one of the game's greatest ever coaches arrive in town.

    I think Hasler is a great example of this.

    I think Stone was largely responsible for Newcastle's deficiencies though. He assembled the team like that because that's how he wanted to coach it. And even though they performed better than I expected, I think there was always a cap on how good a team like that could really be (7-10).

    I'm not really a fan, although I disagree entirely with Benny that Griffin in better. Griffin is truly awful. Taylor is better (although you'd need to sign a specialist defensive coach if you signed Taylor).
