Indeed not. He let him go when he was Manly coach because he didn't really rate him that highly, then found himself at the same team as him again a year later. And then he played him in reserve grade.
Have you see. Sam Perrett play in the last three years mate? Deadset. He's got the acceleration of Dane Tilse and the agility of Bryan norrie in Steve bells body. Oh and the ball skills of Jeremy smith.
Yeah I've seen Perrett play. He's one of the best back three players in the game, particularly coming out of trouble. Much of which he provided when he played fullback for Easts. Inu doesn't even have the basic skills to defend at fullback. He's completely unreliable and might as well not be there when a line break is made. In fact he's not particularly good in attack either. I think he's up there with Ashley Graham as the most overrated back in the game.
Yes because he was being eased back into FG after a previous lengthy injury in April. Hodkinson was not dropped for Keating.
Hasler just straight up decided he was more impressed with Keating's form than what Hodkinson showed IMO. Hodkinson made his return from injury in Round 11 and he played first grade straight away - off the bench. He also played off the bench in Round 12. In Round 13 he was dropped back to NSW Cup and he played another three games there before getting injured again. Given it was his fifth game back by then, I'd come to the conclusion that Hasler was just straight up picking Keating ahead of him, especially given it was getting towards the business end of the season. I even made a couple of posts here bemoaning the poor selection IIRC.
I disagree. I think Hasler thought it was more important for him to actually be out there playing 80 minutes at halfback in reserve grade than sitting him on the bench in FG. I don't doubt that Keating's form at the time probably impressed Hasler thus he may not have wanted to disrupt the side but that's irrelevant if we're talking about starting a new season. Hasler clearly rates Hodkinson. He let Orford go and picked him over Cherry-Evans when those two were rivaling each other. Unfortunately the guy is very injury prone and that throws a spanner in the works not just for Hasler but also for the people trying to analyse what he's doing. I still think Hodkinson is his man.
Anyway, all of that is erroneous anyway if we're talking about what we would do. I would pick Perrett if Hodkinson and Reynolds is the halves combination. The only argument I find at all attractive for moving Inu back is just to get the guy out of front line defence. He's so bad it's embarrassing to watch.
He didn't pick him over cherry Evans at all really. Dce just wasn't ready for first grade at that point.
Hasler was very seriously considering DCE over Hodkinson. If you guys think he's gonna play Keating then fair enough. I disagree, and I think it's irrelevant anyway because my opinion was contingent on Hodkinson wearing the number 7.
There is no way I'd put Perrett there even if the halves were Johns and Lewis anyway. I'd sooner put Turner there.
But you'd put Inu there; a guy who the last time he played fullback made Zillman look like Langlands.
