Will pay attention to BBallSim if we start fresh with a complete clean slate and new teams/regos etc. No idea about it at the moment though, so that's my vote.

Keen for any of the options really besides no obvs.

Ultimately voted for a fresh start.

Finish the season so we don't need to wait for people to register and sign.

Start fresh if contracts and teams remains the same. Just with an option of players who wants to retire and do a new rego and then find a new club or if old one wants to absorb him again.. clubs's choice.

    this goes well..

I wouldn't mind seeing it brought back with different everything.

  12. Zakaron SDR Laing

    Might as well start anew.

I think finish the season for the sake of it, then let people who want to start new to retire/restart is the best way.

I reckon go new teams next season, same simming names/positions/height/weight except for those who want to retire, (whatever rego system is necessary for the sim.) I like your draft idea, I just wonder how we can fit that into a system where there is no contract value in the long term.

That's the difficult thing I'm trying to work out.

Add values? I reckon I'd like to see a system for the first season where by You maybe had teams with Owners & GM's on a board, with the addition of a "marquee" player and then draft the rest of the players in to teams from the get go. I don't know I am thinking of a bunch of crap in my head about how to make a system work that seems like it could be cool, but would potentially make the sim less popular as it might end up with people on teams they don't want to be on...

I'm happy with the concept of free agency - the idea of a draft is to discourage players from retiring. What I'd like to do is to encourage long term contracts in a way that doesn't create too much editing of player skills.

I think free agency is vital to make it interesting, the point wouldn't be to replace free agency tbh, just to create a different looking league. Some quick and not thoroughly thought out ideas might be to make long term contracts be of value to making a team better (indirectly) and therefore players looking to win championships are going to be more likely to sign long term contracts. This would again require players to be ascribed value by someone(some people) but my thought went a long the lines of, a 1 year contract signs you to a club at full value and each additional year reduces the cost of a player by a percentage. If a team was allowed to have 500 points in their first team or something they could sign 5 100 value players for 1 year or 5 150 value players for 4 years, or somewhere in between depending on whether a player would be willing to sign for that long. Then for a player wishing to break contract and ask for a release any team that would sign them would have to pay the full value of their contract, plus the original bonus amount to the previous club, so that the team the player left would be able to offer any length contract to the replacement player without an overall drop in value of their team. A similar penalty would also be applied to any team that releases a player without being approached by the player where by they would have to pay the bonus they would have received either to the players next team or else to the Commissioner, if the player stayed a free agent for the entirety of their remaining contract time..

If you sign a long term contract you would have to serve the entire contract, get a trade or (maybe) agree to a mutual parting in my mind. I just need to find a way to incentivise long term contracts form both team and player - I had an improvement model in place previously which looks like it may have worked but did require a bit of work on my end - that doesn't improve players too much.
