    Unlikely we'll win but I was hoping we'd go on the offensive but lose with a few goal being scored by us. Maybe 4-2 or 3-2.

    Something more respectable played to win rather than to try and limit the opposition.

    5-0 I could like with if we play positively.

    Don't think we've played too badly it's just whenever we have a chance there's been nobody there too meet the cross whereas what few chances Mexico have had they have been sure not too fuck it up. Shows the difference in class between the two oppositions.

    Our boys played with heart but to be honest I think Mexico were just teasing them. They had the ability to turn the "go" switch on and off as they pleased with ease. As soon as NZ thought they were in with a chance they bounced back with another goal within minutes.

    I'm sorry, but without Winston Reid and/or Ryan Nelsen, the defensive shape and technique was lacking in a big way. Just not up to the required standard, sadly.

    Not really. Both different shades of failure.

    Certainly there was a bit more to the attack and the overall performance was much less craven, but still pretty poor.

    Tbf we are a small country that puts stuff all resources into football shame we weren't at full strength as it may have made Mexico respect our defence slightly.


    We are missing the huge leadership and experience of RN.

    I'm pretty confident that Winston Reid would have made a decent difference. Not a big enough difference to win, but big enough for the result to be less embarrassing.

    It's actually a shame Nelson wasn't able to play with Reid for longer as it was two good defenders playing in the English Premier League. Going forward we need to get more players there!


    What do you think of Herbert being gone?

    Good in the long run. Herberts tactics have always been far too negative for NZ to reliably win games against anyone decent. I mean, NZ don't even thrash the Pacific nations like they should be.

    I can only ever see NZ being successful playing negatively, as they did at the last WC. Their fitness and organisation will just always be miles and miles ahead of technical ability.

    Exactly. Short passing isn't going to work with these guys that have no technique. NZ's best shot is to try and just park the bus with like 6 or 7 at the back, put some pacey players on the wings and try and just win corner/cross it and bundle goals in.

    our pacey players arent even that pacey.....


    The future of the team is to use Wood up front with 3 attacking midfielders being a combination of Costa Barboursss, Rojas, Payne and Howieson. Then 2 deep lying playmakers who can distribute and defend infront of the 4 at the back
