England takes seriously most of the sports it invents or codifies. It just happens to suck at nearly all of them. Sucks at RL. Ordinary at Union. Ordinary at Cricket. Ordinary at Soccer. Sucks at Tennis.
Yeah I'd be prepared to say they're currently better than Australia at all the sports mentioned outside of league.
You're misunderstanding, perhaps because I didn't satisfactorily elucidate. I'm talking about from the time the games were invented. England hasn't had a Wimbledon champ since the 30's. England hasn't won a Football World Cup since 1966 and that was your only win. Of the top 5 nations in Rugby Union, only France has won fewer World Cups. England has won fewer Ashes series and has never won a World Cup.
AWTA. Obviously in relation to the world, we generally have pretty much no male tennis players that are actually English (Murray being Scottish) and we're not as good as AUS in RL, but everything else. Usually you're posts are actually good, quality posts, MF, and this is possibly the first bad post I've seen from you, but it is very dire.
Why would we talk about the past... Secondly, that's one football world cup more than Australia. Personally, I'm not a huge tennis fan, so I don't really know many tennis names, but I know the top ones, and can't think of any Australians there.
Sam Stosur! as for Mens Tomic and Hewitt would be top 100, pretty sure Englands best are outside the top hundred.
Why not talk about the past? I'm talking about England's ability at the sports it invented or codified/institutionalised. To do that we need to look at the whole picture. Not just the last 5 years. Secondly, I'm not comparing England to Australia. If you want to though I will be more than happy to espouse why I think Australia is 5 times the sporting nation that England is.
If I'm honest MF, I wouldn't say we take RL nearly as seriously as any of the other sports you've mentioned. There are no RL clubs near, however, just off the top of my head, there is a while Union league of teams, there are 6 leagues of football near me, then about 20 miles further away, there is at least one more football league. There are 3 local tennis clubs, and no league clubs. I know one Rugby league fan from college, and there are 3,000 people in my college. I've never ever done Rugby League in P.E, however I've done Union hundreds of times.
It was just at that time I thought we were talking present/last 5 years or so. Yeah, but England's ability, isn't England's ability since it begun. England's ability is it's capabilities now. Well if I'm perfectly honest, it would be a complete farce if you weren't a better sporting nation than us. Firstly, you have such a large population compared to us, and therefore more people will inevitably do sport or stay more active than us.
