Storm with 0 signings is pretty interesting.

  3. Magic AJ Parker

Dolphins with the best recruitment. All 3 signings will be in their starting 13 and needed.

Averillo strikes me as someone who may do very well under Bennett as a fullback. I imagine they might try to play him at 5/8 though.. little more dubious about how he would go ther le under Bennett but I still back him to be a success.

I wonder if that Pacific Cup stuff flogging would spell the end of Teddy in the rep scene. Could bode very well for Roosters 2024 season.

  5. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

Yep, he was given some grace this season for sure. By both NSW and Australian selectors. He'd need to absolutely kill it next year to keep his spot in the Blues side. And I honestly don't think he'll get picked for Australia again, surely guys like Ponga and Walsh have surpassed him, and if Turbo is fit, he'd also jump ahead of him in calculations.

Unless Turbo is fit I don't know who you pick over Tedesco at state level. Easier argument at international level if Ponga stays fit.

I think Tedesco could quite easily play the Dylan Edwards role and to a higher level if that's all you wanted from your fullback.

Latrell is a world class centre but need more from fullback at SOO level.

Gutherson, Kennedy or even Edwards just feel like rotational stop gap solutions until someone better comes along in which case I'd rather just back Tedesco to rediscover his form and back the continuity that already exists.

Scott Drinkwater is probably the most compelling case after Turbo for mine. Not sure if Michael Maguire would agree though.

New rule: No penalty for fucking up a dropout or kickoff. Now a play-the-ball.

It's going to be chaos

I wonder how many leg/foot injuries we are going to get now?

It’s a really odd one, given the trend we already saw towards short kick offs in 2023 I really do not understand the thought process behind wanting to incentivise it even further. Just let it be.

If anything having to watch even more shit drop out attempts (because the majority of them are) makes for a worse viewing experience and you’re losing the art of getting repeat sets and building pressure. There’s not many better things in Rugby League than watching your side defend 15+ tackles on their own line, outside of a try and a fight it’s typically the loudest cheer you’ll hear at a live game.

I think it’s great to see different tactics used by sides looking to gain an advantage and if they’re successful they’ll typically be adopted across the game as a fad until it no longer is. But that should happen naturally, I’m not a fan of the administration stepping in here by incentivising it to the point where it’s almost the only logical option for a team to take because they have some pre-determined image of what ‘they’ want the game to look like.

Just get rid of the dropout and make it a 20m tap or make it that dropouts have to go 20m. I don't want to see these stupid 10m dropouts and then the retarded pandemonium that follows. It's unfair on the team who earned the dropout to lose it based on a 50/50 jump competition. Not to mention the increased stoppages to figure out who touched the ball.

Having an increased number of contested leaps will create a surge of avoidable leg injuries IMO. There's a reason why the AFL have changed a bunch of rules surrounding contested rucks etc.

Anyone partaking in fantasy nrl this year? Doesn't seem to be as many cheapies this time around

Playing poorly in game 1 and then NSW's attack actually being worth a shit when he wasnt allowed to get his hands on the ball (that lead to three tries) is what should lose him the spot imo.

  13. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Penrith will definitely slide this year I think. Dolphins can make the 8. Brisbane are my tip to win it.

  14. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

How can they look at the current state of the game and conclude this is what needs changing? Yeah lets make one facet of the game more like union for no reason.

  15. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

I agree that Dolphins can make the 8, could have this year if their squad had better injury/judiciary luck, but what makes you think Penny will slide and Broncos will win it? I thought Penrith would this year, especially while Cleary was out with the hammy; they lost 1 game without him, against the Cows in golden point. I think they are deserved favourites. Broncos have lost a fuck load in Farnsworth, Flegler, Capewell and Palasia. The experience of their finals series will be invaluable though, and their tough draw to start will build some resolve, so they will certainly be there or there abouts come October.

  16. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

True, some mates and I play, but yeh. The only cheapies are guys who might not even play a game.

Those arent huge losses imo. Very replaceable. I said the Broncs v Panthers GF would be an epic, weeks before, when everyone else and the bookies were saying it was already over, race was run.

Brisbane 100% shouldve won that game. Total choke. Not many teams go through that and dont get better......except Parramatta lol.

Panthers have been up there for 4 years. Long time to be hunted. Top 4 but not premiers imo.

  18. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

    Lol @ Parra.

I agree Broncos should have won, and it will be generally remembered as a choke and on paper it's certainly a choke, but I was there live, it was no choke IMO. They had to dig so deep to get to where they got to in that game. They had a dogshit start and were lucky as fuck to only concede 1 try and manage to score one for themselves before half time. For all the defence they had to do and some odd calls from the officials, it was miraculous what they did. They had nothing left in the tank by the end of the game, and Penrith making 1 error all game didn't help them much either.

I agree Broncos will better overall for the run, but I'll be pretty shocked if Penrith miss out on a top 2 spot.

  19. Magic AJ Parker

The Dolphins falling away due to lack of squad depth was largely predictable though, no?

Averillo and Farnsworth certainly adds some more depth to their backline and spine but they are still very light on for genuine spine options.

I think they improve but don’t have them in my top 8.

Seems to be a few better squads probably have then in the 9-12 range with tits, knights, manly

Panthers, Broncos, storm, eels, roosters, wahs, sharks, rabbits
    Tits, knights, manly, dolphins
    Cowboys
    Bulldogs, tigers, dragons, Raiders

Notsure how I rate the Cowboys, seem to have a few question marks in the squad either over who will be selected or can the player penned in make a leap
