It's just so pointless. They say Hagan, but this feels like Meninga has thought it up and confirmed it with Latrell.
I really don't care too much about jersey numbers but the Australian's application of it is just annoying. On a whole though if you're going to try squad numbers then I feel like the World Cup isn't the place to do it. You're not going to get a peak in jersey sales because someone falls in love with a player over what's essentially a 3-4 week comp. It also makes it a more confusing experience for the casual who's tuning in to watch a game of players they've never seen play or knowing about a jersey update communication they probably never read.
It's the stupidest idea. I'd rather them use their actual Kangaroo number if they wanna go down that path. Have a 1-17 for each day, and put their squad number on the training shit if they really want it.
There would be an argument both ways. While having the best 9 starting might bring some early gains, he is so good at raising the tempo of a match that is beginning to settle. How would playing early minutes against a fresh side and increasing his defence affect his performance?
I just dont think your bench hooker should be twice as good as your starter. Obviously you lose some impact but I pretty much dont rate Hunt. Grant starting with Cook or Koroisau at 14 is what I'd be doing. Hunt's service is gash and, similar to Qld, our attack is disjointed and the halves arent organisers. As soon as Grant comes on the whole focal point and structure is through him. The halves are freed up, the middles roll forward far better and the entire team is playing on the front foot. Very similar to Smith such is the effect he has on the players around him. I certainly dont think thats just because hes fresh, tho it no doubt helps. Just start with your best imo.
Yeah I thought this too but Hunt offers halves cover if there are injuries and Api isn't actually in the squad (he's playing for Fiji lol) so it's not really practical.
People are giving it to Freddy over the non-selection of Addo-Carr for NSW this year in favourof Tupou, I disagree though. For starters Addo-Carr was suffering terribly earlier in the season when the Dogs where playing like shit. Then there's the fact that that Freddy wanted 2 Wingers to do hard carries coming out of thier end. Tupou weighs almost 20kg more than Addo-Carr, which will help a lot when against a keen defensive line hitting you with 3+ blokes looking to drag you. There's also the attacking high-ball factor, with Tupou being a better target. Tupou does have the odd retard error in him (though JAC does too tbf), but I would have made the same call tbh.
Can really feel that this is Rugby Leagues showcase event by the quality of the promo material. Wonder if they've got a boots sponsor....
