Been one of those games where one admires the efficiency of the winners, but as a contest it's really blown. Kudos to Oz, but v disappointed with NZ today.
Thurston was gun. Created two tries, kicked well, ran them ragged, broke plenty of tackles and made some important ones of his own. He was the most dangerous player on the field. Constantly testing the line.
Created 2, bombed 1. Literally all he has to do is walk on the field and he gets MOTM. Any mistake he makes is completely ignored, and he gets ridiculous praise for minor things. Ooh look Cowboys/qld/Aus scored a try, brilliantly set up by that simple pass Thurston made three plays ago. Better give him more awards, herp derp.
I get the whole overrated thing, dude. It's true of every great half that ever laced up a boot. I was saying the exact same things about Andrew Johns that you're saying about Thurston now. They praise him for minor things and ignore the bad. That's all true. It's unfortunate but just the way it is. Thing is though, you have to give praise where it's due. You can't seriously begrudge him for winning it tonight. He was in fucking everything for Australia. I could certainly understand them giving it to Scott or Gallen. Both were excellent but to make out like this is some travesty is just a bit silly IMO. You gotta admit there's some lemonz involved here.
Thought Smith had a quality game too. That kick he put in that allowed Thurston and Morris to trap Locke was sublime given the 4m in-goals.
