Was this the backline qld used a few seasons ago, is it the best backline to ever play in an origin game?

    1. Slater
    2. Hunt
    3. Hodges?
    4. Inglis
    5. Folau
    6. Lockyer
    7. Thurston

  2. Paddy P Orr

Had Boyd instead of Hunt. I believe Hunt was on the bench during that 09 series.

  3. Jabba HJ Bots

Oh ok I recall Hunt starting maybe it was instead of Folau in a series

  4. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

Pretty sure he started at 5/8th one game.

  5. Paddy P Orr

Game 1 of 2008 and I think played there in the 08 decider too after Prince went off with a broken arm.

  6. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

People not picking Tunza is criminal.

Reckon Matty Sing deserves a wing spot.

Perhaps. I think his best days were pre-2000.

  9. Alec AD Funkotron

    His best days were 95 - 05.

Interesting side note, NSW has had 58 debutants since the beginning of the 05 series whereas QLD has had 29.

Would probably put him above Boyd at least. Sing was pretty much superior in every aspect imo.

And then promptly dived. Disgraceful play, there was no way he was impeded and Qld had a massive numbers advantage outside him.

The try should have been awarded.

I agree it was a pathetic effort from Hoffman but I don't believe the try should've been awarded. I think both sides were disadvantaged from it. NSW, because some of the players who could've involved themselves in the play may have been distracted, and in footy, that's all it takes. And QLD obviously because we did indeed have a great chance to score and win the match and thus seal the series. I think a neutral infringement and scrum feed to us was the right call. What I found unfathomable was the NSW players pleading to Hayne that it ought to be their ball. I mean give us a fucking break you blokes. How can we be expected to surrender possession in those circumstances? Now that would've been truly disgraceful. Borderline robbery. I think they were frustrated in finding out that QLD would be afforded another full set. That does seem to me unfair to them given that there were 3 minutes to go and they had just defended 5 tackles. Then again, as was evident, QLD were in an excellent position to seal the match with a try. So, end of the day, I think the neutral infringement call was the right one. It's all academic now anyway. Although, if by some miracle NSW had raced 90m to score I probably would be singing a different tune :p

It would have been an even bigger joke if it was awarded, forget about what Hoffman did for a second and just think about the fact that there was a streaker and 5 security guards wrestling in between the two sides.

We stop the game when an accidental ball rolls onto the field, if a streaker and numerous security guards running onto the pitch isn't more of a distraction then I don't know what is.

It's not even a thing, they followed the rules to a tee. Apparently. Although I swear the international rule book used to say that in the event of an infringement by the referee (or spectator we'll assume) that it was a scrum for the team in possession rather than the 'attacking' team. The fact no one (even Hoffy) was directly infringed by the 14 security doesn't matter. Their presence is distraction enough that I don't think you could reasonably award a try.

Not doubting anyones knowledge or explanation but, wasn't there an incident a couple of years ago involving Boyd(?) and the Ref got in the way? Resulted in him or someone else being unable to score/stop a try? Why was the rule not applied then?

Because that's not a neutral infringement. It's not the referee's job to get out of the way of the players (though it's sort of an unwritten rule that if someone runs straight at you, you might want to fuck off out the way:p) It's the job of the players to avoid contact with the referee. it's perfectly legal, for example, to use the referee as a shepard.

    KK's post threw me

A bit off topic but Smith is the better captain there.

Why do you say that? He seemed pretty deferential to the more experienced Lockyer, before he retired.
