Nah this doesn't work with players who are mediocre at best in attack./

  2. Old Mate M Perry

We'll be able to see why he played in the halves etc. can't see that on the wing.

  3. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

    Yeah, I think it does.

  4. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah; he apparently possesses some skills that are completely irrelevant on the wing. I'm still not convinced he'll actually play fullback but it'll be interesting to see if he does.

  5. Alec AD Funkotron

He's supposed to be terrific support player, but why is he slow as shit?

  6. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Support play is largely anticipation, and how one reads the game, I think. Speed certainly helps but there's been plenty of great support players who aren't speedsters.

Maranta to become the next Lockyer.

  8. Alec AD Funkotron

    Matt Lockyer

  9. Pretzel P Retzel

Isn't he the fastest at the club lol

  10. Alec AD Funkotron

Not really, that would be Marba or something.

Maranta claims he's been winning atheltics comps as a kid, but I reckon that's all bull.

    List some examples.

The only examples I can think of are blokes who are very good attacking wingers (sometimes in field players) who get moved there and look good in the short term....Brett Morris, David Mead, Todd Carney etc are examples of this, there is a plethora.

Not many mediocre attacking players get a shot there though, I'm thinking Perrett hasn't really looked good at all, Nightingale always looked out of his depth when deployed there, David Howell sucked and I'm sure Maranta will too.

Matt Lockyer was a fucking gun.

  13. Andato BJT Manera

An article I read earlier today stated Hodges will play fullback with Copley in the centres and Maranta on the wing.

  14. Old Mate M Perry

I hope not. Maranta is the fullback this competition deserves.

We're partly talking at cross purposes. Half of my criticism is based on what faculties I consider intrinsic to the position. And the other half is how the role of fullback is perceived by most people. So when I say Maranta will be made to look better than he is it's partially because I think the ratio of opportunity to responsibility at fullback is more disparate, in favour of the former than say, wing. But it's also partly because most people couldn't give a shit if he misses 8 tackles and drops every bomb anyway, as long as he looks good with the ball in hand.

You needn't look any further than your own backyard for a good example of this dual paradigm. Reece Robinson. There are plenty of other examples too, I think, but I'd first like to hear your feelings about this example I've given to see if we agree even on him.

Robinson was a God at fb. Should never have moved him.

  17. Julian BJ Taylor

Yes I do agree with what you say about looking good at fullback mf. Maranta is not a player that looks good with ball in hand though. He's safe, can be good under the high ball etc. I agree with you r thoughts on fullback and Robinson is a great example...pathetic in defence, terrible under the high ball, always out of position...but he looked good with ball in hand so jazzman and friends circle jerked.

    Jazzman?

Lot more time and space though, remember.

Might be a moot point anyway as it sounds like he won't be getting a crack there.
