Bloody hell, True Detective lights on fire from episode 4 onwards! Still got the finale to watch but so glad I stuck through the slow start.

Just finished watching it, pretty fitting end to the season. Spoilers in white

Fuck I thought they were both going to die in that fight scene. I was sure Rust would die. Marty looked ok for someone who got an axe in their chest

Yeah agreed. Good ending but still a lot of loose ends IMO. So much unexplained symbolism.

Looking back on it, that's probably the best thing about it.

If you read some articles about the Audrey theory there are just symbols and coincidences everywhere.

Can't wait for season 2 of TD. Epic to the end.

Was about the characters in the end instead of the serial killings which was good. But the hallucination leading to the surprise attack was predictable though. Marty's daughter connection that everyone was so sure would pan out didn't in the end.

thoughts on Resurrection? Channel 7 seem to be pumping out the promos for it

Disappointing end to True Detective imo.

So many cliches to wrap it up for a show that promised so much.

Thought they actually avoided a fair few cliches tbh.

It wasn't as good an ending as I'd have hoped but still an apt finish to the story. I didn't find the conclusion itself to be cliched at all. I think it was classic misdirection on the part of the writer - a happy ending when most would've predicted, given the tone of the show, a morose or pessimistic one. It seems to me that the twist was that there was no twist. The writer may have been counting on all these different hypotheses being floated around. Seems like that was the point of a lot of the symbolism inserted into the show.

I did, however, find the final confrontation to be typical Hollywood bullshit. Rust is being impaled and lifted off the ground yet can still muster four headbutts, and then saves Marty at the last available cinematic moment after he too has been impaled. That scene could've been better choreographed.

I know a lot of people dismiss him as that guy that can only play a misunderstood southerner but fark I reckon McConaughey's been in such gun form over the last couple of years. This on top of Lincoln Lawyer, Mud, and Dallas Buyers Club. His cameo in Wolf of Wall Street was crack up too. Genuinely one of my favourite actors going right now.

Yeah, Interstellar is going to be awesome.

    Spoilers

Two detectives who have a falling out reunite to solve the mystery despite being sacked from their jobs at the local law enforcement office largely because everyone doubted them. They've burnt all their bridges and must go it alone in the quest to finding the truth. They go through an epic battle with the criminal in question, both are severely injured in the battle but one manages to put a bullet through the criminals head just a split second before he's about to kill his mate. Both miraculously survive, embrace at the hospital and talk about how good is finally starting to triumph over evil.

Don't get me wrong I still thoroughly enjoyed the show, the acting was brilliant, the production was great and even in the finale there were still some really good parts. The chase scene was intense and one of the best I've ever seen in a TV Show.

The twist being that there is no twist was a big disappointment though, I felt like I had watched that ending numerous times before it was way too predictable.

Agreed so much with this. I think the creators made a mistake by having Childress as the last thing you see in ep 7, tbh.

I partly agree but some of it either can't or shouldn't be avoided. For example, you say you like the chase scene but you imply, I don't know if unintentionally, that that is a cliche (which it is). Frankly that was the most predictable thing of the entire series IMO. You just knew with certainty he wasn't going to come easy.

The fact is the police detective genre is itself a cliche. Personally, I think a better ending would've been Rust dying.

    disagree mf.

he put it in white for a reason MF. No need to spoil it for everyone man

I found the whole process of them actually doing detective work really enjoyable, didn't really care how it ended as much as I did in other shows like Breaking Bad.

Too much importance tends to be given to endings by viewers imo. It's partly because we know we can't get more episodes and thus want the next best thing, a kickass ending.

Firstly, you've posted spoilers before. Secondly, it's a TV thread ffs. And thirdly, I wrote in big bold letters "True Detective Spoilers."
