If Dortmund make the semis I'll be bloody amazed, let alone anything more. They're one of the most overrated teams going now that Hummels has lost his 2012 form and Gotze has left, as well as Lewa leaving. The only way they'll compete in the CL is by abandoning the league challenge completely (which I imagine could well happen tbf).

Yep, you've really convinced me otherwise. Nice one..

As said above, a centre back should be a priority now. Vidic is on the decline, whist Jones may be the long term pick, he still has his brainfarts now to stop him being a first choice CB.

Evans and Smalling are both guilty of some horrible howlers in defence far too often this year, so many soft goals going in. Need to shore up that position.

Problem is that there's a severe shortage of good quality centre halves.

Lewa leaving isn't really relevant for this season, and they won the double in 2012 despite Gotze missing most the season.

The thing that's hurt them most this season has been injuries obtained to the back five and the fact they can't seem to score any decent chances at the moment.

I'm hoping for Zouma... though sounds like Chelsea will get him. Nkoulou could be a decent option, but then both are a bit raw.

Word on the street is that Vidic is 100% to leave at the end of the season. Some less reliable rumours flying around that Ferdinand will too, possibly for MLS. But even if they stayed, signing a CB would be properly urgent, imo even moreso than a CM at this stage.

Yeah it's getting pretty dire. They're both expected to play more football and refs are letting them away with less, so defending has almost completely gone out the window.

But the situation at United is especially bad. The likes of Phil Jagielka would be a massive improvement on anything we've got.

I would say it will be 4-2-3-1 with Rooney up front and Mata behind him , Januzaj on the left and Valencia on the right. RVP will be on the bench. He might come in for Januzaj or Mata if the game goes in positive way for united. Moyes won't take the risk of starting with RVP. At times I even see Welbeck might come in instead of RVP.

I doubt Mata will start. It's a home game so ideally he'd come on as a sub to allow the fans a chance to cheer him on.

Agree it's very unlikely he'll be signing for us. He's "keeping his options open" apparently. Maybe just trying to get a better contract.

Honigstein reckons he'll probably re-sign eventually, but a move to United is definitely a possibility. He basically wants to be paid the same as Ribery, Schwein, Lahm etc. but the club are holding out. United would surely have no reservations there.

Something has to give with Bayern. They have too many good players to pay all of them the wages they could get elsewhere. A lot of players will stay there anyway for footballing reasons, but some won't. Kroos is probably just using the threat of United to get a better deal, but it's not hard to see his relationship with the club breaking down as a result. It's unlikely, but I don't think Furball's right to dismiss this one out of hand.

I'm dismissing the idea that Bayern are going to sell him for £25m.

I'm also dismissing the idea that Kroos will leave Bayern in January to join Moyes' race for a Europa League spot.

I think it's 1000% more likely that Mata took 8 because of the recent history of the United 7 shirt rather than because you're going to sign Marco fucking Reus

  15. BoyBlunder BOY Blunder

I don't think anyone's expecting him to leave in January...

Wrt trying to fit Mata rooney and rvp in the same team, definitely think we should consider 3-2-2-1-2 with Wing backs and Rooney and RvP up top, Mata just behind. Carrick being out an issue for that one though

Lots of noise about Shaw because both your left backs are fucking tragic too

Yeah, they basically have eight midfielders who would likely get into every Premier League side, plus Shaqiri and Lahm. Kroos has actually played in every game for Bayern this season though, admittedly in a quite injury depleted side, so I'm not sure he's the one who'll be leaving.

Martinez is the one I'd be keeping my eye on. Not sure what the state with him is fitness wise but he's been making the bench a lot so I assume there's selection issues as well as injuries. Pep doesn't seem to like his style of defensive midfielder in his 4-1-4-1 either (he's actually played further forward in the big matches he's played). There was also that mini disaster during the winter break where he was played at full back in the first half of a three nil loss.

Martinez's future might be at centre half. If United want to sign someone from Bayern then they could do worse than look at Dante.

  19. Cabinet96 OTN Wood

Martinez hasn't actually played at centre half in any match that matters yet this season though, which I find a bit weird.

Don't see it, van Buyten is ancient so they'll need another CB at some point
