Nik Kosef 13. Ben Kennedy 14. Des Hasler 15. Ian Roberts 16. Phil Daley 17. Terry Randall Ballin was always my 3rd option. You took my first choice of Krilich, so I had to settle for Serdaris. If you can call that settling.
You're drunk aren't you? Chris Close on the wing? Dale Shearer on the bench? The man has gone mad & you're encouraging it.
Close was a good winger. And Shearer used to rape for QLD off the bench. Hell of a lot more effective than Hasler was.
Hasler was more effective than Shearer FOR Manly. Which is what we're comparing here. Close was a good winger, but I thought he was better suited to centre.
We're comparing them as players, or at least I am. I wasn't sitting here picking a team and thinking only about how they played for their club.
How was the two of us picking only Manly players for a Manly team have anything to do with rep footy? Imagine if the power went off right at kick off to Origin at MF's house? There'd be an APB of "Shots fired! Shots fired!"
Because rep footy is part of who and what they were as players. I was picking on all forms of football because it's a hypothetical team. It's not like we have to give any sort of consideration to combinations and how they'd gel, now do we? You're talking about players from completely different eras.
Good point. But, why did we both end up picking halves that played the bulk of their career together? An anomaly, perhaps? None of that changes the fact that my team would beat yours. Kosef was a favourite of mine, but he was also a damn good player. People talk about the likes of Lewis & to a lesser extent Bird being able to play 2nd row & 5/8th. But, Kosef was doing that close to 10 years before they came on the scene & not only was he an outstanding 2nd rower, but he was just as good at 5/8th. It's a shame a constant knee injury & 4 reconstructions later cut his career short. I was undecided on Hasler & Cunningham. Hasler was my first choice, but OJ would've been an easy settle if you picked Hasler before me. I'm actually surprised neither of us (well, especially me), didn't pick Lyons & Menzies in the same team.
kosef was not as good at five eighth as he wAs in the backrow ffs. that'd be like me saying the same thing about Jason Croker.
