    Professional scapegoat.

According to a guy who seems to know the inner workings (Hancock02 from the ex-Rleague forums I believe), Kearney works on defence.

Edit: That's not to say I know how Griffin still has a job either. It's Dumb and Dumber 3.

I know it was only a trial but that was pretty poor from the Broncs. Some real lazy shit in defence (especially coming up in a staggered line) and attack looked pretty shabby for the most part. They really need to be good defensively this year, I don't think they're the type of team that can stay composed enough to chase down a lead.

Hodges looking to be back in Round 6. We look far better with him in the side, but I'm worried it might be a little early.

I'm torn. I want him back because Brisbane really need him. But I don't want him to play for QLD. :p Then again, if it's between Hodges and Chambers, I'll go the former every day of the week.

Yeah look, Hodges is a vastly over-rated Origin player but with Queensland's current outside back depth.. as a NSW fan I am absolutely hoping Hodges doesn't play Origin this year.

  7. Alec AD Funkotron

He was awesome for QLD last year.

  8. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah indeed. I'd much rather come up against Chambers or O'Neill or someone like that.

  9. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Well, I'm not sure I would say Hodges was awesome, but he was pretty good. Especially compared to the preceding 10 years. Awesome, I'll save for Inglis (and Tate :p)

I don't have a degree in counting 5/8's or anything but I'm pretty sure that's meant to read "THE answer to the Broncos’ missing five-eighth is . . . no five-eighths"

    Gotta feel for Hunt

Yeah, officially hope you guys get the spoon.

Explains Josh Hoffman retracting his request for a release and calling up the fans too.

If it meant playing a more traditional back line, with Hunt and McCullough dictating on both sides, I wouldn't have a problem with it. In fact, I prefer it. I don't think it'd work overly well, but it's a hell of a lot better than asking one of them to slot into first receiver, which is probably what Griffin will have them doing.

  14. Old Mate M Perry

That is pathetic, Griffin is such a bitch. Fuck I hate that POS.

I'm imagining Hunt always becomes first receiver with Hoffman and Barbara alternating between second receiver, probably having a side each, I've got no major qualms with it

Makes for a very predictable attack these days; doesn't take a lot for the defence to look up and know the ball will be going whichever side Hunt is standing on. Personally I'd be pretty comfortable leaving the side that had to defend something that lined up as Hoffman first receiver, Glenn second receiver pretty open. To make this sort of thing work in the modern game I think you need either a really top class halfback or a some forwards with genuine skill who offered some ball-playing away from the halves.

Beyond that, there's the very real problem that Hoffman should never be second receiver ever. He looks completely unco when he has to do that job even as fullback, let alone five-eighth ffs.

Griffin has really just got to stop doubling down. How many years is he going to try the "oh we'll just be bigger/stronger/fitter/more homogenously athletic than the opposition and dominate them, Under 12s style" thing and have it fail? Brisbane need to try actually playing football this year. This means not listing a strength and condition coach as the key signing, not trying to fudge the most important creative position in the game and not moving players wider just so they can run hard and straight at halfbacks.

They need to pick their best two genuine halves and give them a freeish reign to actually play like halves and react to what's in front of them. I don't care if that means Strasser, Taylor, fucking Hoffman or even Josh McGuire ffs; whoever they pick there needs a genuine role, not just someone to "do a job", "have a good running game" or whatever Griffin thinks he can get away with. He's a complete spud of a coach whose utility starts and ends with having an Under 12s side with the biggest kids in the comp; he'd coach that pretty well but beyond that he's lost for ideas. It also means that they need to give Parker a license to do some ball-playing around the middle third, and Thaiday on the edge if he's going to play there. They need to start creating points through slight of hand; not just field position, athleticism and physical presence.

The only thing more damaging than Brisbane going in with this sort of attitude again would be it actually working. I think I'd just about turn it in as a rugby league fan then.

Milford's family has moved to canberra and there are rumbles he may renege and take the big dollars, especially if broncos shit the bed early in the season.
