I don't think there are enough people per team to ever really justify subforums, even if it became really popular.
Unless he goes down the route of having a really strong reserve grade (and possibly a third grade in the long-term) and sticking with a smaller amount of clubs.
I reckon reduce the comp to 6 teams and focus on building a proper, respected reserve grade. A good reserve grade will ensure the longevity of Basketballsim imo. Players who get less than 'x' amount of minutes in first grade are eligible for their reserve grade team for that round. Reserve grade means those who constantly get fuck all minutes/no gametime at all won't lose interest in the sim as they still get to compete in a competitive semi-pro competition.
Yeah, it's not something I think should ever be on the agenda really. That's the idea behind having 10 teams for next season (it'll be 8, but that was the idea behind the suggestion). It meant most teams would have 7-8 players and so your bench would become more important and require more minutes. I'm not too keen on reserve grade tbh, both because it's not really how the NBA is done (although there is a D-League which is something I'd consider) and I don't want to have to keep records for two competitions. It's a bitch as it is right now, it's all manual, but I don't want to run a competition that doesn't record stats. Ideally, when we're a couple of season down the line, I'd like to have 10-12 teams each with 8ish players who all see a reasonable amount of minutes. Rookies would jump in and work their way into starting roles - just like the NBA - from the bench. If necessary though reserve grade is not ruled out, but I'd like to explore first grade expansion first.
The NBA doesn't need a reserve grade to keep the lesser known players interested, basketball sim does. I can understand not doing one if all the stats etc are manual though.
First up my aim is to keep people interested by having small squads that require use of the bench. Ideally teams would be something like PG 32 SG 32 SF 32 PF 32 C 32 G 28 F 26 C 26 give or take minutes for a couple of stars and/or hacks. Players still play a reasonable amount of time and have a chance to compete for starting roles. If necessary active players will have a minimum minutes cap of 20 minutes or so. I think it's the best way to go about it because a) it means everyone is on the same level and trying to differentiate between first grade and reserve grade competitions and weighing each performance as a result is not a problem, b) I only have to keep tabs on one competition, c) I'm not simming games for one or two people who are interested. I'm not shooting down the idea for ressies, so keep the discussion coming, if you people can convince me that's what's best then I can do it. Also, if we're going to run a 2s comp I'd rather it be similar to the D-League and have different teams playing in that comp. EDIT: Now that I think about it, a D-League style competition isn't too bad in idea. Teams would still sign players to a first grade contract, but then they'd be allocated/they'd fall under a team/sign for a team in the D-League. I'll think this over.
Well yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Have stand alone teams that can play whoever starts on the bench and/or plays less than 24 minutes.
Shit players, get little game time. It's what sport is all about. Why would you want to have a shit cunt play more time?
