I'm starting to think there are no two ways about it. At 25, and since he's become relatively serviceable in defence for QLD, he'd have to be a strong chance given his 6-8 years left in the game. I think he's the best outside back I've seen since Meninga. He's better than O'Connor. He's better than Ettingshausen. He's better than Gasnier. He's better than Slater. He's better than Hayne. And I think he's better than Lockyer (given his fullback career being cut short).

I can only speculate, but I don't think there is any player NSWmen fear more come Origin time, than this bloke. Speaking for myself at least, he sort of gives me the feeling that Wayne Bennett spoke of when talking about Wally Lewis - You look around the dressing shed. The players see him. And you just knew things were gonna be alright.

Mind you I have that feeling about Thurston and Smith too but not to the same extent, despite the fact that I think they're more integral and important to our success.

Considering that the judges are full on retards, that the new immortals are very rare, that there are other players who are probably ahead of him on the pecking order, and that the judges love the Slater and Barba types of fullbacks more...unless they start bringing in immortals every year, I'm not sure that he'll get in.

Needs to, at the least win something at club level.

So no, unless he gets out of his Souffs contract.

What does winning something at club level have to do with his ability? Or was that just a jeer?

  7. Flack SA Flack

No, I don't believe he will.

What does ability have to do with an award voted on by people like Paul Kent & Phil Rothfield?

So Inglis won't become an Immortal because Kent and Rothfield are partial to club success?

Nah don't think so. Unless he moves away from Souths, or Souths win 2-3 premierships with him IMO.

And disagree he's better than Slater. Reckon he will be, but he's inconsistent at the moment. Still just goes missing occasionally

  11. GYR DW Lewis

Wally lewis never won any premierships.

Yeah. The thing Slater has over Inglis is consistency. :renske:

And wtf is this shit about winning premierships? lol.

  13. Old Mate M Perry

You need at least 2 premierships, fact.

  14. SM MD Dorn

I didn't really word that right sorry. I wasn't meaning to say that Slater is more consistent than Inglis. I just think Slater is an all round better player

  15. Tartmaster AJ James

    Fuck no.

He's absolute balls for 90% of the year and only shows up for maybe 5 games a year (3 of them being origin).

You're right MF, come origin there's no player I fear more, but in any other game there's not many players I fear less.

  16. GYR DW Lewis

Any other year I would agree but he single handedly took Souffs to the prelims last season.

Did you even watch footy last year? (apologies if that came across as condensing or patronising but his 2012 was seriously good)

I think the reason why his club form was a little off was because he was playing in a position which doesn't suit him that much.

Anyway, he has a fair chance. Also I don't see why Souths can't win a comp, so the argument that he needs to win a comp to become an Immortal could well be moot.

I will admit I didn't see much of souffs last year.
But when I did he was average.

Although when I say average I mean average for him, he's a good player but whenever I see him at club level, it just seems like he cbf playing to full potential.

This may of course be skewed by the fact I dislike him immensely, so probably effecting my opinion on his skillz.

His play at fullback last year was the best of any fullback IMO.

i hope he does as he's one of my favourite players (except at origin) but i don't see it happening.
