Assuming Thurston, Smith, Cronk etc. all retire in roughly 3 or 4 years.

  2. Magic AJ Parker

Pretty big meh to all those options.

DCE probably has the most potential to be a good captain out of that sad looking bunch. Seems to handle the media pretty well and comes across pretty level headed.

Will depend on whether he's settled into origin in 3 or 4 years time I guess.

  3. Rocks DN Boland

Daly. Can see him being groomed nicely for it.

I don't think there's much point considering Scott, Myles and Thaiday given that we'll have to pick a new captain only a year or two later. Apart from that I don't like having forwards as captains because they aren't out there for 80 minutes. Inglis would make a good captain, especially from the back, but I think Cherry will be calling the shots from halfback so I'd go with him. He has a lot to prove between now and when Lyon, Watmough, G.Stewart etc. retire. I'm hoping he's made the next Manly captain. And of course, I'm hoping he is made the next Australian halfback over Pearce, and god forbid, Reynolds.

    Cherry-Evans.

Inglis is as dumb as rocks. Captain needs to have at least some intelligence and the ability to articulat.e

True, but mad yacht parties if Inglis is captain.

Why are they saying he's from New Zealand? He was born in Brisbane. His old man was a Kiwi.

Holy fuck, just realised he went to St. Pats and played for Aspley. Good on the kid.

They should probably wrap up State of Origin when Smith retires.

They will keep Smith as a non-playing captain, kinda like the Davis Cup.

I really can't see DCE being given the captaincy at practically the same point as he's given the starting halfback spot. I think you'll have a couple of seasons of someone like Myles as captain before he retires to allow DCE the opportunity to actually cement his spot first.

Matt Scott will get the fill in gig

  16. Reagan Wheelson RDP Wheelson

    Cherry-Evans, IMO.

  17. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

For captaincy, you need the best a man can get.

  18. Ged GEC King

Thurston will be the stop gap. Then DCE.

  19. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Smith will go longer than Thurston, IMO.

I agree he won't be made captain in the same year that he's brought into the starting side but I doubt Smith, Cronk and Thurston will all retire in exactly the same year. We may have an interim of JT or Cronk although personally, I'd be very surprised if Smith doesn't outlast both of them. I don't see Thurston fulfilling his 4 year deal and playing until 2017.
