Who is the best contested mark in the AFL, pound-for-pound?

I.E. defensive kickout with huddle strategy Chris Yarran kicks to 40 degrees on the open side and 7 huddle members run to grab it, if one of them does even if there are 4-5 vying for the same ball it's not contested as due to them not being still there's very little physical pressure.

You like to generalise and pidgeonhole players. Taylor has great hands, often takes them in packs, and because of this had success up forward. He regularly beats out wrestling forwards. He doesn't take them on the lead like others do, yes, but that's not all there is. If it was Franklin would be a top 10 contested mark player when he's actually pretty average 1 on 1.

Surely it'd be two or more, not three. There's no way that a mark isn't contested when it's a one on one wrestle and the forward marks it

Yeah, I don't buy that at all. I think it's just in a contact situation.

Bartel's definitely up there for me, I wish there was some sort of proper highlights package of his marks. Clean hands, good bodywork, lots of courage. Took the best mark I've ever seen live actually, it was probably 2002 or 2003 and he was running back with the flight of the ball towards a pack of 3 or 4 blokes, jumped up and took it on the chest as he crashed into them.

2004 I think. Against the Bulldogs at halfback yeah?

    Now that's a contested mark.

Yep! Amazing stuff, better than Reiwoldt's IMO, albeit less spectacular. I'll see if I can find it, I've definitely seen it before on Youtube.

How many times do you think a 1v1 contest results in a mark though? I'd say 25 alone.

Keep in mind that most matches only have 18-20 contested marks, IIRC.

I know i'm gonna get slaughtered here but I'm pretty sure technically that's borderline in terms of 'contested'

had anyone else in the pack taken it, yeah - but due to Barry's starting point and movement I'm not sure if it qualifies.

THIS IS NOT MY OPINION FOR THE RECORD.

This video then recommended to be Nick Davis' final goal to steal the game from us in the 2005 semi :(

Worst game ever. Best individual quarter ever. Worst feeling ever. :( :(

This and Riewoldt's amaze me every time.

Cried my eyes out after that game, tore my 12-year old heart out.

I just remember sitting there, unable to move wondering if it was really over.

Dad just stood up, turned off the TV and went to bed. Didn't say a word.

I ran to bed in tears and tucked myself under the blankets. My old man came in and told me "that's football son".

So much heartbreak until that 2007 premiership. The 2004 prelim still haunts me too.

Pound for pound would have to go Jimmy Bartel.

Best proper contested would be between Sam Reid and Travis Cloke.

Best intercept is deffs Harry Taylor, but it's easier as a defender as the forward isn't trying to shut you down in the contest.
