ffs, we're just shite all around apart from the bits of brilliance from Folau, Genia & AAC.

  2. Rego RS Hutchinson

    Bye bye Lollabies

  3. The Boy Brumby ZJ Brumby

Quality stuff from the Yarps there.

Cooper a wee bit naughty on Habana as well.

  4. KickATinAlong IA Ryabovol

Our support play is so rubbish as well, so often blokes running into tackles with hardly anyone else in sight.

  5. Rego RS Hutchinson

Yeah Saffas are shitting all over the Aussies now.

  6. the_killerz S Bakkum

Aussie are such a joke team now. What happened to them? ?

  7. The Boy Brumby ZJ Brumby

Ah, jeez. Wobblies have just fucking swallowed it.

Great vision from Le Roux, but hate to see a team phoning it in. Have some fucking pride in the jersey, softcocks.

  8. Rego RS Hutchinson

Yeah. Wallabies will be on the chopping block in no time.

    Absolute thumping.

I think the most irritating thing of all, is shit like that. Blow so many opportunities to score through an inability to hold onto the ball.

Haven't been watching, but good to see we're doing well. Makes a nice change.

On Le Roux, he's ridiculously non-SA in his playstyle. Actually has some great creativity and innovation, it's like a breath of fresh air.

How would you know whether they are a joke or not Heef? Serious question have you taken a course on reffing?

I probably shouldn't be running my mouth off after several beers at the local and generalising from 3 poor calls either over 80 minutes. Granted.

"I'm just amazed the All Blacks ever win a test match away from home given how much they apparently benefit from home town refereeing."
the ABs have a better win loss ratio at home. When was the last time they lost at Eden Park?

  12. Athlai JJD Heads

Doesn't generally every team have a better win loss ratio at home in sport? And a champion team like the All Blacks would no doubt have an even more pronounced advantage.

  13. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Ha. No, I haven't taken a course on refereeing, but neither do I see nefarious intent in every decision which goes the All Blacks way.

And every team plays better at home. But then I presume you think that every team has home reffing advantage, so that explains it.

What I do think is that the breakdown is often officiated quite differently from one game to the next and that the All Blacks are more adept at adapting to the interpretation being made by the ref they're playing against. I think the refs have a tough job and there is no way they are out there every single All Blacks game and being biased in favour of them. I think that kind of supposition is absolutely ridiculous and insulting of the referees.

  14. Arheiner SIA Yates

He may be exaggerating, but from a neutral perspective, the AB's definitely get a LOT more hometown calls than pretty much any other team in the world.

Seems fairly standard to me. But not sure if that means McCaw is good at his job or if the refs are just crap/biased. Suspect it's a bit of all 3.

  15. Notsure SM Green

It's absolutely impossible to quantify the level of "bias" of a rugby referee. Firstly, most decisions are hugely subjective anyway and each referee has slightly different interpretations. Secondly, if there was a slight bias you can't tell by simply watching. If you wanted to analyse whether or not there was bias you would have to do a systematic study of rugby games over the past few years. Human perception is basically terrible.

McCaw gave away two penalties for not rolling away. I don't want to see yellow cards given for that. The Argentinian YC shouldn't have been but that was ruled as a professional foul for being offside. Clearly different to McCaw.

Overall, I wasn't that impressed with the All Blacks. I think South Africa next week will probably be too physical for them. I don't know how Sam Cane will deal with a physical game (the Chiefs would generally play Latimer against a South Africa team). Luatua will have to have a huge game and impose himself at the ruck rather than roaming wide. That will be the crucial battle.

As for the Wallabies, I have given up. We need to get Quade out of there - I don't know what the answer is but it isn't him. What has happened to Genia? Also, why do we kick it so much? When O'Connor finally got the ball in space he almost scored.

To change the topic somewhat, how do the Aussies feel about the start of MacKenzie's reign? Seems to be suffering from the same malaise as under Deans. I know it's only been 3 games and against the toughest opposition, but if anything the Wallabies are looking worse than they did against the Loins.

    AWTA.

AWTA - It is impossible for me to make unscientific claims this is a good point. I have tried to substantiate it through penalty counts but it is very complex because the less possession you have the more you will get pinged in general so I havn't found a means of accounting for that yet. One day I will. I will publish it on cricsim with the thread title "attention Heef".

@Heef - You are not qualified to claim that my suspicions are "ridiculous" as the breakdown is impossible to understand unless either you have played the game at a high level or have trained as a senior referee. And you are in neither category. The degree of complexity in the laws is immense. And is always subject to a particular season's interpretation of the laws.

Your skepticism is based on the laws of probability and common sense both of which carry no weight with me and never have. I believe in empirical evidence and something has to explain why every rugby team in the world, not just the ABs (but it is more pronounced with the ABs) does better at home.

I find it difficult to believe the crowd really influences the players or we would always lose at Millenium stadium.

I am not in anyway suggesting that the ABs are not the best team in the world. They are an incredible team. Which is why when we had an average player at 12 last night he stood out like a sore thumb. I just think in some games they would win by 5 points instead of 15.

I also don't think that home town reffing applies to every game btw and I told you I thought Joubert the other week was superb and try as I might I couldn't fault him.

I have no idea of the psychology behind why or if home town reffing occurs. And given that it is winding you up I will give you a break from me talking about it unless it is blatant like the Kieran Read example from two weeks ago.

Edit: I was typing this while you made your above post to change the topic. But as you will read all deleted posts anyway I will leave this here.

Fucks sake man, why are you always assuming intent when people can make mistakes. Why aren't you harping on about Fernandez Lobbe not being binned? The All Blacks aren't even the team I support and if you're really keen to get the opinion of some referees, I'm happy to ask my mate at the NZRU for the view of the referees at rugby central, but I doubt whether anything would convince you that you're wrong anyway, so whats the point? Wrong calls happen all the time, just you seem to assume the referee is deliberately making the wrong decision to please the ABs.

You refer to the complexity of the laws and I agree on that, which is why referee interpretation varies significantly from one game to the next and my counter to your view is that the All Blacks deal with that variability better due to their generally greater experience. I suspect this also helps to explain how the Springboks enjoyed better treatment from the referee in Brisbane last night. And to me, that's part of the game and in time you'll see top class players like Hooper gaining the experience to read the referee better. However, as things stand there is no one with greater knowledge at the breakdown than McCaw and Read isn't far behind.

As another question, was England's better outcomes with the umpiring decisions in the Ashes 'home town calls' too?

    Don't be surly.

if you read my post again you will see I gave you an undertaking not to bug you again about the topic (unless something obvious happens). That was my way of being accommodating.
