It gets worse and worse for the Broncos, going into administration now.

That's no good for Super League tbh.

Super league should get club sides based in Ireland,Scotland and Wales Imo. Fuck off the dead wood clubs that are useless and expand across the uk. Would do wonders for the international games

  4. Mariner CL Warrington

Needs to expand down south first imo.

You obviously have no idea how much of a niche, minority sport in the UK Rugby League is.

I'd love a Super League side in Glasgow but it would be years away from any sort of off-field success. And there's simply not the money in the game to subsidise expansion sides.

They're struggling to keep a side in London afloat ffs.

I have every idea. But it's never going to improve if it keeps going the way that it is

Clearly not. As Furball points out the Super League can't even manage to have a club in London that can financially support itself. It is somewhere that should have a broad enough range of people to find support from you would have thought.

Scotland's 2 Union sides aren't amazing well supported for league games, it is a bit better for Europe. So I don't see there being much interest towards a League side. While I am sure the World Cup raised some profile in Scotland, you didn't really see anyone talking about it here.

All you would be doing is creating more dead wood.

It isn't gonna happen over night but something needs to be done if the super league wants to be a decent competition. Maybe they need to go back to promotion/regulation. But if a french side can sustain them selves then I don't see why a scottish/irish//welsh side wouldn't. The broncos are failing because they're useless on the pitch

From what I can tell there was at least some history of RL in France. There isn't in Scotland (I can't speak for the other nations). I would be 95% sure that a League club would be a failure in Scotland at any point in the near future.

The Warriors are getting there. Most of the Pro12 games this season have been close to sold out.

But again, that's taken a good 10 years in a code that's always had some sort of presence in the country.

edit: the World Cup would have raised League's profile slightly here (it was at least talked about on the news), but with the games being hidden away on Premier Sports, it was never going to capture attention.

People in Glasgow would eventually support a decent Rugby League side IMO (IIRC Braehead Clan in ice hockey and the Warriors are the two fastest growing sports sides in terms of support in Scotland), but sustaining a Rugby League side would require a lot of money that the game in this country simply doesn't have.

The problem the Broncos have had is that they've moved all around London and IIRC had a name change a few years ago. They've struggled to really establish an identity for themselves or colonise a certain part of London as "theirs".

Ideally Super League needs 2 London sides to get a meaningful local rivalry for the Broncos and so that each London side has a territorial base from which to draw support, whether that's East vs West, North vs South or whatever.

It'd be good, yeah, but it's still something of a pipe dream. The Celtic Crusaders (as poorly run as they obviously were) showed the likely result of expansion into non-league areas.

That said the Broncos are hardly the first SL team to enter into administration; recently we've seen Bradford and Wakefield have to follow similar routes and both are slap bang in the middle of the heartlands.

I think a return to promotion and relegation is a must; the franchises haven't achieved what they set out to (improve the quality of the teams with less emphasis on short-termism), so what's to be lost?

Roby signs a new 5 year contract saying he'll never go to the NRL, WAG.

Roby isn't as good as he used to be but he's still one of the SL players I think could make a genuine go in the NRL.
