Disregarding the apparent financial incentives for playing matches at the Olympic Stadium, are there any logistical reasons for not being able to play NRL matches at Redfern Oval? It's a fantastic ground, I believe the grandstands hold 5000 each with standing capacity for 5000 at either end. Ideally you would join the two stands together at one end. It's got no car park, but I don't really see why it needs one? It's about a 20 minute walk from central station, and a stones throw from Redfern station. Brookvale has no carpark and it is legit the all time worlds biggest cunt to get to via public transport.
Belmore would be closer to hosting an NRL game than Redfern you'd have to think. Redfern only has the one grandstand, I wouldn't think the ground would hold much more than 10,000 people. Can't find any figures on what they got to their Return to Redfern pre-season games. They would just have the same issues as the Tigers have now with Leichardt & Manly with Brookvale. Shit parking, no corporate boxes & poor amenities. It's surely a better option than crowds of 11-12,000 at ANZ against outer Sydney teams such as the Titans or Cowboys though.
Redfern has been written off. They'll never touch it again. Especially now that Souths are moving everything but Junior rep matches to Maroubra. Souths should play out of the SFS IMO. Moore Park is just as much (probably more tbh) Souths territory as it is Easts territory.
Yeah with Magic on this one. We really need the 'suburban' grounds to hold close enough to 20k to be a viable option imo.
Has Belmore been revamped? I was there about 5 years ago and it was a shithole, but seem to remember their being some money put aside to give it a face lift
