Premature NRL Predictions for 2016

Early but we had similar threads this time last year and the year before so meh.

So who do you think makes the step up, declines, wins the comp, etc.

For me, it's hard to look past another Brisbane/NQ grand final with RTS and Maloney leaving the Roosters. Think Brisbane deserve premiership favouritism - yes they've lost more than what the Cows have, but I think the Cows season was kinda a stars aligning sorta thing, they won an awful lot of games by very tight margins, plus it's been years since sides went back to back.

I think the big improvers will be the Warriors and the Raiders. Warriors are oozing with natural talent and with RTS and Luke in their spine looks a lot less Johnson reliant. Canberra have some really talented young players and with an extra year of experience and the addition of Sezer should turn around a lot of their close losses last season. Penrith, Parramatta and Manly should also have kinder years but maybe not to the same extent as the former two clubs.

Hard to find an obvious slumper, obviously Easts losses will hurt but their side still looks damn good on paper. I can see the new rules really hurting the Dogs though.

Spoon battle will be between the Tigers and the Titans IMO. Wests could go OK if Brooks and Moses get back to 2014 form, but the side sorely lacks depth and experience. Especially if Taupau and Farah leave. Gold Coast's squad looks worse than any side I've seen in years, I'm afraid. There's still a few decent players there so it's not quite Souths circa mid-2000's esque, but there's little to like about it IMO and the gap between the best and the worst NRL side is a fair bit closer than it was 10 years ago anyway. Newcastle aren't anything special either but they're a little better than those two....especially if Tolman and/or Farah join. On paper that should be the Bottom 3 as things stand, though it probably won't be.

Tigers are gonna be fucken shit because luke brooks is a shit cunt and we're paying chris lawrence like 700k a year and a bunch of players who won't even be on our team a bunch too. Jason Taylor also has a 2 inch erect penis

Hahahahahahaha fuck I love you cunt

Had this discussion with Read and Gemmell earlier.

Personally reckon Titans, Eels, Knights, Tigers will be left behind by season's end. I'd tip the same happening to Penrith and Illawarra too.

Keen as fuck for the All-Queensland grand final rematch ;)

I actually think Brisbane will have a stronger team next year if Kahu can adapt well to the centres. Hodges really wasn't suited to the Broncos game structure this year, and he just plainly isn't a centre anymore as you could see by his high LB+try Assists.

Broncos+Cowboys should finish 1-2, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Cowboys had a massive premiership hangover and finish 5-8, even though they aren't losing anyone.

There are a number of reasons why I think that Nth Qld can go back to back. Obviously I'm biased and there's a big concern of a premiership hangover but here goes:

    1. Paul Green has some form here, having coach Wynnym to back to back Qld Cup titles - he can clearly motivate a side that's already won the comp.
    2. We've lost none of our top 17.
    3. The team is young. JT is obviously the exception but is showing no signs of waning any time soon.
    4. The U20's made the prelim last season. The Blackhawks made the final of the Qld Cup. There's massive depth throughout the grades leading to players being pushed to stay in the team.

  8. The Half Back JW Taylor

Roosters for the premiership in a canter.

The Cows finally lived up to their potential. On paper they can definitely go back to back. They have the best halves combination in the game, one of the best forward packs, an extremely promising young hooker, and a serviceable set of outside backs. If they stay injury free again Green can definitely take them to the top again.

4 in a row. Will be a great achievement.

  11. Toolman TR Man

    1. Storm
    2. Souths
    3. Cowboys
    4. Roosters

Provided that NQ don't have a premiership hangover, I reckon Broncos and Cowboys will be top 2 for sure. Don't see any other teams surpassing them at this stage.

I can't decide who to pick for wooden spoon, though. Knights, Titans and Tigers are all pretty bad. Eels and Panthers aren't anything special either, but doubt they'll be as bad as the other 3.

  13. Julian BJ Taylor

Never as cut and dry as that though. Cowboys are fucked if Thurston is injured. And one feels Brisbane are as reliant on Hunt as well. Both teams would struggle to cover five-eighth and hooker as well.

  14. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

Pretty much. We'd be fucked without Hunt, plus Broncos traditionally go poorly without key playmakers present.

I really do not rate Kahu at all anywhere else other than on the wing. I'd sooner move Oates in or bring in Copley.

In saying that, Reed needs to play on the right when he comes back from his surgery. Cunt has been playing out of position for years.

Tipping souffs to go well next year after ditching Luke for Cook.

  17. Julian BJ Taylor

    Really?

I think Souths will miss the 8. Keary and Reynolds aren't actually that good. The pack is pretty rubbish, Cook has played about 8 games, and the backs are pretty much pathetic besides Inglis who is probably going to be playing injured anyway.

  18. Julian BJ Taylor

    In no order

Cowboys, Broncos, Roosters, Storm, Sharks, Raiders, Warriors

will all be in the 8 IMO. Last place is a bit of a lottery between a few clubs.

  19. Alex AJ O'Driscoll

Pretty confident that the Broncos are the best side heading into 2016.

  20. Toolman TR Man

If S.Burgess does return they're definitely a top 8 team imo
