Pace of the Game

What do people think the different paces dictate

    Fast Pace
    1. Want to force the ball inside with your backcourters
    2. more then 1 competent ball handler
    3. Lots of scoring options
    4. No stand out scorer, you dont want to let them get set and shut down everyone man to man

    Medium Pace
    1. Double Threat Teams, have guards and bigs who can score the ball
    2. Need a handler who wants to score the ball or setup the perimeter
    3. Want to create post opportunities, open Jumpers and run the fast break

    Slow Pace
    1. Backcourt Outside OR Bigman inside game
    2. Lots of passers for quick movement with minimal dribbles
    3. Need 2 players capable of putting up big numbers because it is essentially a 3 man offense PG + Inside OR Outside

    Fast breaks.

yeah I know that is what fast is just surprised some teams went with what they did like the Sabres playing so slow or the Hammerheads/Ocelots playing so fast.

Medium or Fast. Don't like slow.

slow suits our team the best  I also think your player rego suits slow alot better then anything else

  6. loganb JEM Logan

    I guess. I just don't like slow.

Trying to find another thread and found this one.

Really underrated thread. Not many think about their game style enough imo.

Yeah I've definitely struggled with this so far.

Interested to note you reckon faster and slower pace suit a side with more ball handlers. Not sure I understand that one.

Weird how he was surprised the Sabres opted for slow when we basically match his description for it. Last season we only really had 3 competent players

Slow pace isn't suited for ball handlers it's suited for good passers of the ball because you are trying to find the best looks.

I go slow on the D cause I don't want to risk fouls but I just naturally like fast paced games plus I like to spread the scorers

I thought this would be a discussion on the ridiculous pace of the sim. Warrants discussion IMO.

    Elaborate.

Well, without completely understanding how the sim itself works, or how much adjustments can be made to the sim, the pace of the game seems pretty ridiculous to me.

Let's use real life examples. The Clippers played last night and destroyed the Warriors while putting up 138 points. It took them 83 shots to get there in 48 minutes. OKC OTOTH jacked up a ton of shots in an overtime game to score 111 points and it took them 93 shots to get there in 53 minutes.

In comparison, The mo's took 98 shots in the game against Sabres in 48 minutes, which is actually a bit on the slow end of the spectrum when you look at all their games. This leads to ridiculously bloated totals that are very hard to take seriously.

For better comparison, just look at the Timberwolves. They have the highest paced offense (shots attempted per game) in the whole NBA and they average 87.5 shots per game. They had some ridiculously over the top games this season and still only shot more than 100 times in four games, two of which were OT games, whereas this is a common occurrence here. I reckon what the Mo's average shots per attempt belongs in the 70's NBA/ABA era, or if every other game today was a double OT game.

This is obviously not something that happens across the board. I see some games that have normal scorecards. So I'm assuming that it has to do with the managers selecting the pace of the game and the sim playing as if the players had been snorting lines all day.

Probably has something to do with wanting more scorers for enjoyments sake. Tendencies probably aren't as low as the nba

Good point, very well could be. And if that's what everyone wants then no reason for change. It's annoying for me though. It'd be like if the average batting SR in FC simming was 90 because it's more exciting.

Yeah, the pace is naturally faster in the sim - I've made it that way. It allows for higher scores which, while annoying to some (including myself), makes it more enjoyable for the role players of the sim.

Back in the first couple of seasons it was also fast so more players had an opportunity to score and establish themselves as good players. Since then I have slowed it a bit, but the pace some teams choose to play at + some players being natural shot jackers these days (Boland lol) the pace is a little ridiculous sometimes, I agree.

I tried to slow it a touch before the start of the season, and it's worked for some, but teams with multiple big scorers who are playing a fast pace. Take the Mo's. They play at a tempo of 100 and quick shot selection usually (down to 70 and standard offense this week though), focus on offensive boards (which gives the other team fastbreak opportunities) and have Boland, Torres, Gemmell and Lukic - all notorious for forcing up ill advised shots at time, as well as Weaver who takes his fair share too.

I've thought about trying to slow it even more as our slow teams are average NBA teams, but thinking about it we're remarkably similar to 80's basketball imo (with a little more 3pt shooting and less FTs - 3pt shooting is something people may have noticed has increased this season). The pace, the passing, etc.

Another thing is I can't for the life of me get teams who shoot the ball around 80-85 times to have more than 15 FTs a game - something that is also low. FTs are naturally lower in 2K. Offensive rebounding is also slightly higher in our league.

I'm all up for debate on what you guys want though, because ultimately I'm trying to put out a product you all enjoy. If it's something you'd like me to try for S7 by messing with the sliders I'll mess around with things in the preseason games or something. Most people seem to judge their performances on points though, so I think having a slightly higher pace would be advisable imo.
